Yes, I also completely disagree with defining QOTSA as a Stoner band.... There are some heavy tracks and a few dirty guitars that remind me of Kyuss's style, but only marginally.... The fact is that since "Songs For The Deaf," they haven't shocked me anymore....

I started to see him one night, on Fuori Orario.... I woke up at 10 in the morning, with the TV still on.... :D
Luciano Salce Il Secondo Tragico Fantozzi

Filini's outfit: a Sherlock Holmes-style oversized hat with a quill like Robin Hood's, an Argentine poncho from one of his rich aunts, tennis shoes topped with galoshes, topographic maps, and a trombone like that of a Calabrian bandit. Fantozzi's outfit: a white sailor's cap belonging to his daughter Mariangela, a painfully ordinary jacket, cinched at the waist with a gigantic ammunition belt leftover from World War II, a slingshot, an anti-venom serum slung over his shoulder, a birdcage with a canary for calling, and a stray cat meant for retrieval that immediately ran away during the departure operations.

...Filini looked like a mutilated person, Fantozzi practically in shorts....

I don't find them at all intellectual; rather, they are much more concrete and substantial than many so-called "indie" groups, lost in boring experiments that serve no purpose.

Lucio Battisti La batteria, il contrabbasso, eccetera

By the way, "La Compagnia" has recently been covered by Vasco Rossi, who included the (debatable) reimagining of the piece in his latest album.... I definitely prefer the original.... ;-)

One of his most beautiful albums.... More than anticipating the rhythms of future Disco, it seems to me that it reinterprets in an original way elements already present in the musical tradition from across the ocean (particularly Black), such as the Funk that was in vogue at the time... A timeless gem.
