Guiltily, in terrible delay, as a devoted fan of the Sprout, I have no excuses for having read your piece only now. Well said, it was not at all a naive debut, for the reasons you have outlined perfectly. Swoon is a gem that could have reached the same heights of acclaim as Steve McQueen. Those who have the Prefab in their hearts, like you and me, know well the band's stories and all the various ups and downs that Paddy and the gang had to face, the tracks that could have appeared on this album but were included in the next one, and how CBS delayed the release of Protest Songs so as not to confuse fans after the excellent chart success of When Love Breaks Down. Small but heartfelt, it's clearly perceptible. Couldn't Bear To Be Special shares my podium with Cruel.
