Reading your review, especially the very strong adjectives that the record inspired in you, I would say Lou hit the nail on the head! This is a record whose intent is precisely not to have an intent; to destabilize and perhaps even disgust the listener. For me, it's a reminder of the idea that art that matters should be loved or hated; the important thing is that it doesn't leave us indifferent :-)

Awesome review that made me feel like a part of a Wes Anderson movie :)
And an amazing album!

In my opinion, I don't see anything Franz Ferdinand about this album :-) This is a band with roots in mathcore and the American alternative rock scene - the album has strong psychedelic influences (with a couple of almost obvious tributes to David Gilmour!). I understand your "Franz Ferdinand" connection: some of the tracks have syncopated and quite danceable rhythms, but in my view, we are light-years away from the FF :) Give this record a listen; it deserves it!

I discovered the band with this album, and I really liked them a lot. I can understand the bewildered reaction of fans of the old album! (which is also really cool, in a completely different way, just as the reviewer describes!)

Having grown up with Green Day as a child myself, I was really disappointed every time they released an album after American Idiot; this trilogy was the lowest point! Yet they could have definitely chosen a nice dozen tracks from all the songs in the trilogy and put out a power pop album that was at least enjoyable!
