Well, nice review, great atmosphere. The only thing I don't understand is in what sense this record would not be bop, or, in other words, in what way it would be "bop in transition."
Maybe one could say that all jazz is "in transition."
But I recently had the chance to listen to this album again carefully (and with real enjoyment, because it's outstanding music) and honestly, I find it to be in the most classic hard bop style of the "blue note" stamp, as much as possible. The quintessence of hard bop, and I don’t think there is a single note, or a single tone, or a single color, that tries to go beyond the aesthetic canons constituting hard bop of those years, perhaps venturing into some new territory (Bobby Hutcherson’s contemporaneous works come to mind, or Miles himself, three or four years later, when he started electrifying, or Eric Dolphy at the Five Spot, just to name a few who progressively stepped away from mainstream bop, in addition to Wayne Shorter himself with his later works or with Weather Report).
Other than that, congratulations.

Disastrous review of a disastrous album.

Anyway, I think they’re all dead, so... peace.

Of course I understand, Denny: great voice Mama Cass, but if I had to get it on, I would have chosen Michelle too.

I’m back on debasio after a long time because of this beautiful review. I wonder if Mr. Wolf is still around and can read me. Anyway, I’m happy to find lovely people, beautiful reviews of great records, and dear trolls who troll and contest, making me smile. Even if all this happened in 2010, which was 14 years ago.
Odradek, my dear highly competent fellow countryman, are you still there in 2024? I truly hope so!

I read this beautiful review by a fellow townsman with many years of delay. A fantastic album that mysteriously seems not to age, as if it were recorded yesterday, or rather, this morning.

It's really difficult to say more about this album even in a historic live version. But all things considered, pier_paolo_farina, you do it with dignity. Well done.
