Well... I was listening to it again the other night, and it seemed too pretentious and not focused enough. Unfortunately, this progressive metal or whatever we want to call it seems to be composed by the nerd of the classroom... titles in Latin, concepts about God. Meh... I don’t feel much heart in it.

Anyway, no; it doesn't even come close to Dark Side of the Moon (for a thousand reasons). And no, "See Emily Play" and the Barrett period are not "little songs" :D

You made me remember God Machine! I'll put "Scenes From The Second Storey" back on later. Nice one!

The writing level is improving... good! References to a lot of other stuff, well... they can happily be avoided if they don’t have anything to do with it.

I only know the Swans from this period for Filth... veeery heavy and not something I particularly love. As for there being any melody in Cop, honestly, I find it hard to believe though :D

review interesting albums. I take the liberty of saying that if you paid more attention to the form it would benefit… but never mind.

The review is a bit ragged...
Between the first two, I prefer this one (the second isn't bad either, but the best part, the first side, sounds too much like Zappa to me).
Here we have Ayers, and you can hear him in many pieces, as you rightly point out in the review.
How they jumped from volume 2 to Third so suddenly remains a mystery to me. :)

The legendary Blaze. Poor guy got quite a rough deal...
However, it's worth mentioning that his performance on X-Factor and Virtual XI is objectively quite " amateurish."
I did like his tone, which in some ways was reminiscent of Paul Di Anno from the legendary and unforgettable first two.
