The wafer (or fru fru) is a cookie made up of two or more overlaid wafers filled with a layer of chocolate, cream, or other ingredients. The wafers are prepared with flour, eggs, butter, and yeast, cooked in special molds that give them thinness and imprint a pattern on the surface of the cookie. The name might derive from the Old English waba, which referred to the bees' nest: the surface of the cookie is stamped with a sort of lattice that indeed resembles a honeycomb.
