Here we are, after much anticipation, another one of my reviews that can never match the success (?) of Blackout!!!
Well, ''She Wolf'' is a silly album at first glance, it doesn't seem like much, but digging deep into the depths of little wolf Shakira, we manage to get used to this new sound for the sexy Colombian, this time less Latin and more English. Is that good or bad? I confess that I prefer the songs in Spanish compared to the songs in English when it comes to Shakira; in fact, Spanish conveys more emotions to me with that sexy little voice that makes you want to do that thing. At first listen, it doesn't seem like an album that deserves it, but already by the second listen, you start to like it. Fortunately, this Shakira has something that other pop singers no longer have... the live voice!
In particular, this album is the third among my favorites (at the top positions ''Blackout'' and ''American Life'' by Britney and Madonna, respectively), now I'll explain what I like about the tracks it contains:
1 ''She Wolf'': Although loved by many, this song doesn't thrill me, perhaps because of the silly lyrics or the dizzying sound, I don't think it deserved to be the first single! Rating 7/10
2 ''Did It Again'': Here we start to make sense, a sad Shakira sings this song that conveys many emotions, it's a ''dark'' song that makes you want to dance (the next track) in fact it's nice to play before going to the club in the evening. Rating 8/10
3 ''Long Time'': It is indeed a Long Time as the title suggests, in fact, the song is so repetitive that it seems to never end! Okay, we get it that you like the phrase Long Time, so let's move on to the next track. Rating 6.5/10
4 ''Why Wait'': Oh great, a decent song of the ''Shakira-time'', it makes you want to sing it all the time and it stays in your head, sorry Haters, but however much you may not like it, it will stay in your brain for at least an entire day. Rating 9/10
5 ''Good Stuff'': This song fits well in the Seat commercial and that’s it. Yes, okay she made an effort by putting many kinds of sounds together and making that orgasmic ''ah ah ah'' sound (we get it, you like it Shaki..). Rating 6.5
6 ''Men In This Town'': My face the first time I heard it was ''OMFG this is music!!'', your knees tremble, her voice makes you feel on cloud nine, these are just a few of the side effects of this addictive medicine! Anyway, dear Shakira, you're already the next Jolie!! Rating 10 (not enough) /10
7 ''Gypsy'': A nice gypsy rhythm that transports you straight to the dance floor (of the elderly), very cute and exciting, especially in the part where she says: ''I'm too young to die'', perhaps one of the most beautiful songs on the album but it strays from the musical style of the album. Rating 9/10
8 ''Spy (Ft. Wyclef Jean)'': Here is the champion of justice of pop music more sexy than ever while singing this intriguing song. Fun as a track but not thrilling. Rating 7/10
9 ''Mon Amour'' At the beginning it seems like a moan but then it starts to transport you into an entirely ''Shakirian'' world that only she can command, in fact, this song creates an atmosphere of a small restaurant on the Seine with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Shakira's voice is very romantic. Rating 9/10
10 ''Lo Hecho Está Hecho'' It's ''Did It Again'' in Spanish. Much better than the English version. Rating 8.5/10
11 ''Anos Luz'': It's ''Why Wait'' in Spanish. One of the few times I prefer the English version! Rating 8.5/10
12 ''Loba'': It's ''She Wolf'' in Spanish. Again, much better than the English version. Rating 8/10
Finished, I hope you (didn't) enjoy this review.
Tracklist Lyrics and Videos
01 She Wolf (03:10)
S.O.S. she's in disguise
S.O.S. she's in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
A domesticated girl that's all you ask of me
Darling it is no joke, this is lycanthropy
The moon's awake now with eyes wide open
My body's craving, so feed the hungry
I've been devoting myself to you Monday to Monday and Friday to Friday
Not getting enough retribution or decent incentives to keep me at it
I'm starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office
So I'm gonna go somewhere cozy to get me a lover
And tell you all about it
There's a she wolf in your closet
Open up and set her free
There's a she wolf in your closet
Let it out so it can breathe
Sitting across a bar, staring right at her prey
It's going well so far, she's gonna get her way
Nocturnal creatures are not so prudent
The moon's my teacher, and I'm her student
To locate the single men, I got on me a special radar
And the fire department hotline in case I get in trouble later
Not looking for cute little divos or rich city guys that just want to enjoy
But having a very good time and behave very bad in the arms of a boy
There's a she wolf in the closet
Open up and set her free
There's a she wolf in your closet
Let it out so it can breathe
S.O.S. she's in disguise
S.O.S. she's in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
S.O.S. she's in disguise
S.O.S. she's in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out
There's a she wolf in your closet
Let it out so it can breathe
07 Gypsy (03:19)
[Verse 1]
Broke my heart
Down the road
Spend the weekend
Sewing the pieces back on
Crayons and dolls pass me by (?)
Walking gets too boring
When you learn how to fly
Not the homecoming kind
Take the top off
And who knows what you might find
Won't confess all my sins
You can bet I'll try it
But I can't always win
[Chorus]
'Cause I'm a gypsy
But are you coming with me?
I might steal your clothes
And wear them if they fit me
I never made agreements
Just like a gypsy
And I won't back down
'Cause life's already hurt me
And I won't cry
I'm too young to die
If you're gonna quit me
'Cause I'm a gypsy
('Cause I'm a gypsy)
[Verse 2]
I can't hide
what I've done
Scars remind me
Of just how far that I've come
To whom it may concern
Only run with scissors
When you want to get hurt
[Chorus]
I said hey you
You're no fool
If you say 'NO'
Ain't it just the way life goes?
People fear what they don't know
Come along for the ride (Oh yeah)
Come along for the ride (ooohhh)

Unfortunately, it is precisely the four tracks written with Williams that represent the real weak point of the album from a strictly musical point of view.
After this block of songs by Williams, we finally breathe fresh air and the album happily takes off, intriguing the listener again as it did with the initial track, 'She Wolf'.
