The funny thing about Lux is that they think they're one of the few chosen ones who listen to alternative music, while the world is full of people who have been listening to alternative since before Lux was even born, yet at the same time, they don't turn their noses up at chart-topping products just to appear cool.

@LARROK, for post 194, see Larrok, if I had to choose between Hendrix and Apicella I would choose Hendrix, there’s no doubt, if Apicella hadn’t recorded a damn thing, he would have made a better impression, and many of us probably think that, but if you ask me if it’s possible to prove that Are You Experienced is worth more than an Apicella album, unfortunately, alas, no one can prove it, but that doesn’t stop me from polishing the Hendrix vinyl with an almost reverential attention and shitting on the Apicella CD.

"maybe it would take a few more listens," but why? I haven't known Queen for long, and I discovered them after listening to a thousand other things; I kept my distance because I thought they were a banal band. Then I came across Live Killers, and I reevaluated and delved into them. I still consider them inferior to my favorite bands, but they're not bad at all; they're eclectic, melodic, fun, and they don’t take themselves too seriously. I like them. But who decided that if someone appreciates this album, it's because they don't have many listens behind them? Where is it written? But this is just one of the many questions that Lux will dodge with his usual nonsense as a supposed music connoisseur.

Lux, you still don’t say anything, Larrok at least is demonstrating and explaining his opinions, you continue to act superior from a supposed pedestal that you’ve placed under your own ass, but so far, apart from the usual nonsense, you haven’t said anything. Who Wants To Live Forever is theatrical, okay, and who decided that’s a flaw? There are people who enjoy theatricality, evidently you don’t, so what?

EVOL is a great album, Larrok; in fact, it's an excellent album. It's true that A Kind Of Magic sounds decidedly older and outdated compared to it, but I also invite you to consider that A Kind Of Magic is the twelfth studio album by Queen, and I don’t know many bands that manage to produce a fresh and original sound by their twelfth studio album. Still, I agree that A Kind Of Magic sounds less fresh than many albums from that period, but I still don’t understand the gaudiness; however, the lack of freshness seems to be compensated by a lot of class. Anyway, for you, Larrok, the innovative aspect is evidently important, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but I also consider other things; I like the melody. I’m not a musician, so I really enjoy the vocal lines, that’s why you think One Year Of Love sucks, while I actually love it. As for One Vision, you say it’s trivial, but I disagree because trivial implies it’s useless and insignificant; if you had said "not very original" instead, I would have agreed. Indeed, the first time I heard One Vision, I thought of "In the Evening" by Zeppelin, as it has the same structure: keyboard intro, then the big riff alternating with the vocals and a slowed-down central interlude. So, okay, nothing original, but the fact is that if I had to choose between the two pieces, I would choose One Vision, because it has a greater impact and engages me more.

So, okay, let’s talk about music in a relaxed way, but I have to go now. Alright, I’ll leave you with this question: why is “Who Wants To Live Forever?” so over-the-top? Why is there an orchestra? I don’t understand the “over-the-top” part; I don’t think it fits at all. I often hear people say “over-the-top” about Queen. To me, they were very over-the-top in their looks, in the videos, that's true, but in terms of music, they were only in some cases, not always. Why do you think “Friends Will Be Friends” is poorly arranged? I told you, the drums there don’t work for me, but the rest seems perfect; Brian May puts in his usual smooth and melodic solos and the last solo, in terms of melodic note choices, seems really great to me. Of course, it’s nothing original, but he manages to create melodies in the piece that are alternative to the main one, while still in line with it. I appreciate that because he doesn’t just fall back on the usual blues pentatonic or try to amaze with ten-minute solos; in my opinion, he always does an original job that enriches a piece without overdoing it.

Alright, Larrok, it was an ironic remark; I have no intention of insulting you. For you, this is a two-star record, and you've explained your reasons. For me, it's a four-star one because there’s only one filler track while the others are (in my opinion) good to excellent pieces. That's already a comparison in itself, don't you think? Or do we need to find a single, universally accepted solution? For me, "de gustibus" doesn’t mean everyone has their own tastes and who cares; it just means it's impossible for someone, whoever that may be, to prove that one album is worth less or more than another, that's all. So when people come along saying "you don't know anything about music because you rated this record that way," it's likely that the first ones who understand nothing about music are actually them. The fact that everyone has their own opinions doesn’t exclude comparison at all. If you want to discuss any album with me, I have no problem with that, and I certainly don’t only know Queen or just ten famous bands, as Lux seems to think. I'm sorry if I made that arrogant joke; it slipped out, it happens.

@ STARBLAZER, not to mention how many laughs Freddie must have had when you rated "COSMO'S ROCK" a 5

great LUX, another joke like that and I'll die laughing. Incompetent why? For whom? Let's do this LUX, when you open your Music School, I’ll be your first student, because I have nothing but to learn from you, too bad that so far, apart from a few silly things here and there, all your musical culture has remained buried, but evidently you’re one of those who don’t want to show off, bye Lux, take care Lux.

Come on Larrok, don’t try to twist things, you said it yourself in post 179 that it’s just your opinion. At least try to step back without drawing attention. The fact that they are just personal opinions and tastes doesn’t exclude comparison; on the contrary, it’s those pretentious declarations of “I know music better than you,” the ones who sermonize that diminish the dialogue.
