I remember buying it in the summer of '94, when they were still unknown in Italy, driven by a couple of hit singles (especially Live Forever) and by the definition of "masterpiece" attributed to them by rockerilla. but...

"but don’t give yourself a 1 alone, come on."
yes, there is a version of less than zero played live in the United States with the lyrics rewritten to refer to that Oswald, and that historical circumstance. Undoubtedly, Americans thought that even the original version referred to the Kennedy assassination (but it wasn’t celebrating the murder and the murderer, so).
Alison’s line should be one of her usual and typical wordplays for which she is famous. "somebody" = qualcuno, but literally "some body" - so: "I don’t know if you're loving some body, I only know it’s not mine."
I had never heard a fecund reading of the line, but, frankly, it doesn’t seem to hold up when reading the line by itself.
Make sure to take care of your liver and avoid alcohol comas. "even Elvis is now almost sober."

It is true that the review does not describe the music, but it offers an interesting interpretative key for the album, which is Costello's best.

review-collage of quotes. For the rest, misinterpretations of songs: in "Alison" nobody gets anyone pregnant - "i don't know if you're loving somebody, i only know it isn't mine" is a play on words based on "body," while it's not quite clear why Americans would have lynched Costello for "Less Than Zero" (which does not talk about the Kennedy assassination, in case anyone got misled by that "Oswald"). The album is excellent.

I really liked the album. Now it annoys me. I don't see, in the review, any mention of the masterpiece of the album, and one of the highest peaks of the Costello songbook, namely "lipstick vogue." Nor is there an in-depth analysis of the album. In fact, for two-thirds, the review talks about something else. However, it doesn't speak poorly of it. So I give it a passing grade.
