Before writing a DeReview, it’s good for you to know that…
Maybe someone has already written it
Check with the DeSearch engine to see if the album you want to review is already present in the magical DeDatabase. If it’s there, it’s up to you to decide if it’s still worth writing a review: maybe yes (you have more to say), but maybe no.
The data must be correct
Check the accuracy of names and titles (Nick Dracke no, Nick Drake yes).
There are writing rules (and DeBaser loves them)
Check spelling and syntax: we’re not in school, but many people read you. Some important points:
the songs mentioned in the text must be in quotation marks and the first letter of each word in a title in English should be capitalized (example: but how beautiful is "Another Brick In The Wall"…). In Italian no (example: "Il mare verticale" by Benvegnù is moving);
names of artists and bands must also be written with capital initials (not jimi hendrix, but Jimi Hendrix).
always use a space after punctuation (not before) (so NO: I think, but I’m not that sure ,that this album,the first in a long series of masterpieces, will be remembered by posterity. so YES: I think, but I’m not that sure, that this album, the first in a long series of masterpieces, will be remembered by posterity.);
there should be no space before or after an apostrophe (unless it’s truncation, example: "un po’ di amor proprio");
text in parentheses (and in quotes) "touches" the parentheses (and the quotes) themselves;
if it’s not necessary to shout, DO NOT WRITE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS;
the Italian keyboard has all the characters needed to write the review, so, tvtb, but don’t (let’s repeat: DON’T) use SMS style.
Send us the cover
We’ll be infinitely grateful (we, like Don Vito Corleone, do not forget). It’s advised to find it before finishing the review, so it’s ready and you don’t have to think about it anymore.
You can also send us an MP3 sample
See the previous point. The sample shouldn’t be longer than 30 seconds to avoid violating copyright regulations.
We publish (almost) everything
Some things are not published: reviews that contain personal attacks on other users, those in blatant violation of current rules, etc. This is decided unanimously by the editors. All other reviews will be published.
However, keep in mind one thing: the more curated the reviews are by the writers, the faster they can be published. This is because if you don’t stick to these small tips, the editors will have to work extra hard to fix them.
Some things may always escape the reviewer, that’s understandable: since they write out of passion. But they shouldn’t be afraid nor worry because — still out of passion — there will always be an editor who reads the review and makes adjustments here and there.
And anyway…
Always keep in mind the tips on how to write a review from the help section, especially those on the freedb link, and if you need clarifications or simply feel lonely and want to chat, then write (with confidence) to editors@debaser.it and a friendly editor will respond.
HELLO IDIOT.
