Well, many Post-Punk bands wouldn't even have existed without the Pistols or the Buzzcocks. The fact that they then went on to do something completely different is another story. Prog is much, much more self-referential than punk (just listen to post-punk bands like Wire or the Pop Group). And remember, these are not hermetically sealed realms... Has anyone listened to Half-Mute by Tuxedomoon? Well, give it a listen. A pretty fun review, I must say. Tragicomic.
