Clint Eastwood Gran Torino

LRS, it’s true what you say. But it’s equally true that (in my very personal opinion, of course), when it comes to the character of Kowalski, Eastwood seems more interested in emphasizing his redemption than in the journey that will lead him to accept the "diversity" of his neighbors. After all, Kowalski is a bit racist, sure, but he’s not Borghezio.

In 1988, FF charts a new course with his previous productions, clearly showing the path he has chosen to take. He makes it clear: he is the Diaframma. His guitar clashes with the voice - spectacular, at an all-time high - of Miro Sassolini. Voice and guitar chase each other, scratch each other, hit each other hard. The extraordinary result is "Boxe". An album that, as notes and the reviewer observe, Fiumani himself has in some way distanced himself from. But of the three with Sassolini, this is definitely and by far the best. And then there's "Caldo", one of the most beautiful Italian songs I have ever heard. Beautiful and valid (despite the not-so-great recording quality) are also the bonus tracks added in the CD reissue. A fundamental album. The Diaframma (a.k.a. Federico Fiumani) have continued to produce excellent work. The same "Sesso e violenza", although perhaps the least inspired album from good Fiumani, has its positive sides. However, anyone who considers the Diaframma just a darkwave band of Fiumani has understood nothing. I agree with you, Ben.

I will never watch the film. I have a question, though: why the title "Santa Maradona"?

antoniodeste and other drinking companions, I can't wait to take care of this fantastic phone recording. The poet, historian, and free thinker will be thrilled.

Anyway, about Eastwood, I remember a beautiful quote (I unfortunately don’t recall who said it). "Clint Eastwood, the most beloved right-wing actor among leftist Italians."

Why pretentious? In my opinion, Eastwood tells (well) a beautiful story without worrying about necessarily finding an original ending. For the rest, I believe he is mainly concerned with describing a piece of America, the "reality," different from what is so often praised by the media, television, and cinema. An America that isn't even that different from our country, from some of the decayed neighborhoods in our outskirts. The truth is that Kowalski/Eastwood is an elderly person living in a shitty place, and it is a shitty place for him just as it is for his neighbors, no matter how many apparent differences there may be between him and them. In such a place, it is usually the young and the elderly who suffer the most. And the discomfort can only increase for those who are "new" (and for this reason, he perhaps emphasizes the issue of integration). Republican? Maybe. But come explain to me the differences between Republicans and Democrats: the former wage wars and show their teeth, the latter are idealistic and smiley. It depends on which face they want to show.

I overlooked this detail, Mopaga. This is concerning. We’ll have to hope for the protectionist politics of the newly elected American president: maybe he will manage to halt such infamous exports. IL SICILIANO, thank you for the crucial clarification. Are you sure, however, that a delicate and touching songwriter like Di Cataldo can be compared to her?

Regarding "ethical" matters, I’d say we've already had quite a nasty quarrel elsewhere. I enjoyed the review. The track by track was inevitable (also because, as you rightly suggest, there’s quite a bit of heterogeneity among the tracks proposed) and it turned out well. I also liked the choice (and the related explanation) to define the music of Zu as "Poligonale." It's a term that fits their music perfectly. I also find them polygonal, actually. However, I must say that, despite being exceptional musicians and extraordinary live, I hardly ever put their albums on. Finally, I'm almost off topic and I’m asking you (for advice): what do you think of Zen Circus? Is it worth giving them one or more listens?

I doubt Pere Ubu knows who Scaruffi is. Or at least I hope so! Is this guy perhaps famous even beyond the Italian borders?

I once saw him mating with a copy of "Modern Dance" by Pere Ubu... And by the way, it was a reissue.
