Jade Warrior Waves
Voto:
Waves is a colossal, unique suite performed by Field and Duhig with a plethora of instruments, featuring Steve Winwood on synthesizer. Both the proportions and ambitions immediately convey that this is a work that is at once summative and programmatic. The suite opens with the menacing crescendo of a muffled electronic noise, after which a chaotic swarming of chords remains. The third movement is a sort of disheveled flamenco over which the guitar freely improvises to the rhythm of tabla. In the fourth, the flute and electronics intone ethereal melodic figures that are repeated in a minimalist fashion. The album is almost entirely immersed in this sense of peace and relaxation, culminating in the celestial stasis of the final movement. The only exception is the seventh movement, which relies on the most violent jazz-rock, featuring the raucous electric guitar solo over a layer of syncopated chimes.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer Brain Salad Surgery

Brain Salad Surgery represents their "technological" peak (Emerson on the Apollo synthesizer and Palmer on the "electronic drums") pivoting on the extravagant suite Karn Evil 9.

Beck once again sidesteps classic blues rock, but even in risky terrains of ultra Fusion Techno, he seems inspired. A series of pounding originals plus a twisted Rollin' And Tumblin' and a fun duet with a blackbird (Blackbird).
