Yes, Blech. The beautiful cover was designed by Peter Blegvad and if you look at the three hearts you'll notice that they are represented as: one observed, the other remembered, and the last imagined. Bye!

Dear Fiquata, sorry for the Curzian oversight. Anyway, Maltese is a journalist and writer, the one from "La questua." As for Brecht's quote, there's still something that eludes me; perhaps I'm placing it in a geographical context by comparing European and South American realities, while you're putting it in a historical context comparing the political systems prior to democracy with democracy itself, and I can't help but agree with you. Tchau!

Certainly, I can't miss the opportunity to share my thoughts since I live in South America. Excellent review, nothing to criticize about the content; in fact, being informed about the mechanisms of global political economy is a great tool to understand our daily lives as well. Two objections to Fiquata: the first relates to Curzio Maltese's assertion, which I counter with a brilliant book by Max Weber titled "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism." Then there's the quote from Brecht, which seems to me to be glaringly clear, albeit somewhat anachronistic; indeed, almost all South American dictatorships are now democracies. Psycro: take the sentence that Jake quoted, "Look, you Italians are doing better only because you are in Europe," then subtract the Marshall Plan and imagine what conditions we would be in today.

Congratulations Bob both for the writing and for the review. I notice, however, that lately you seem rather pessimistic and a little bitter; you didn’t seem that way a few months ago.

What faces! I would gladly smack them.

Nice suggestion and feedback. Ribot has never convinced me much, but maybe I'll give this a try.

How vast is the ocean called Jazz. I like to take a few dives, but sometimes it scares me.

I’m a little late due to moving, but I can't miss the chance to comment on another gem from Jargon. Very well done.

I don't want to say that it is, but I have the feeling that the guarantees of the welfare state force individuals into specific frameworks. I have paid eight years of contributions and I think I have no right to any pension benefits; it seems to me that the minimum is twenty years. I used a rather strong word, but the meaning is that; you either work thirty-five years legally or your future is not guaranteed.

Well done, Stoney, I really enjoy your comments when you touch on this topic (I don’t remember which other review you were commenting on). I can confirm in practice what you assert because, in a way, I took a risk. I married a woman from a culture different from mine, I moved to Brazil knowing that I would have to reinvent my work and, above all, give up the benefits of my pension, something that has earned me the admiration of many who called me brave. But! Now it all seems like a big blackmail to me.
