Katatonia Night Is The New Day

In my opinion, there are too many references to Opeth, too many indeed. It's obvious that there are "Katatonia" songs, but the "Opeth" influences are really excessive, almost distorting. I appreciate Katatonia's innovative attitude, but they need to try to do it without overly identifying with other bands. And in the other songs, I find that there's a lack of bite, that something that used to keep me glued to the album. Anyway, I want to point out that I didn't even vote for the album, precisely because I prefer to do so after I've listened to it more thoroughly.

I challenge anyone to claim that "Idle Blood" doesn't sound like a "calm" song à-la Opeth... To say otherwise means lacking critical sense (and having ears full of wax), it's an objective observation. The "like"/"dislike" discussion is certainly up for debate, but on this....

Well, if I had the chance to see them live, NO WAY I’D MISS IT JUST BECAUSE OF THIS ALBUM! :D Honestly, I didn’t like it; I was pretty disappointed, unfortunately. But it seems like 90% of the fans like it... I’ll listen to it again, of course, I’ll try to find the positive aspects, but I know it won’t grab me at all like other Katatonia chapters. Anyway, if you can go see them, GO! :D

Yes HardRock, I understand your point of view; I just wanted to express mine, which is that AS AN ALBUM (as a whole, then) I really like it...that's all. I didn't mean to change your mind or anything...

"The Great Cold Distance" is among my favorites; in debaserian ratings, I'd give it a solid 5 without hesitation, even though there are a couple of slightly underwhelming songs.

Ta-dah! Dario, you were right! XD I know: no comment on the review. As for the album: it's the worst one so far for me. God, I want to hear KATATONIA, not Opeth! Come on, "Idle Blood" is a copy of a typical calm piece in the style of the latest Opeth, and the keyboards are the same! I can believe Mikael likes it so much; it's free advertising for his band! I hear very little heaviness in the guitars, and also very little emotional intensity (unfortunately... it's not that I'm happy about what I'm saying, quite the opposite). I save "Forsaker" (the best) and a bit further down "The Longest Year," "Nephilim," and "Day And Then The Shade." But the rest, guys... I struggle to listen to it all without getting bored. I never thought I'd say something like this about a Katatonia album, really. I'm waiting for them at the next hurdle. PS: I know that for these words I'll be labeled a heretic and everyone will shout, "It's a beautiful album!" but this is what I think, having a moment of critical sense.

Some parts didn't sit well with me (like when you refer to the themes of the Triad as merely 'literary digressions'; I think they are sooooo much more), but okay, it doesn't matter. I had barely heard a couple of songs from this album, but it hadn't impressed me. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Oh, this was the band of Hamish Glencross, the younger guitarist from My Dying Bride. And in this album, he actually plays. Cheers!

I've heard very little, perhaps because I'm not a fan of the post-core sounds that leave some traces here (and I have to say I'm not a fan of Amorphis either, another influence of theirs, it seems)... anyway, I'll try to listen to them again sooner or later. You're not the first person to speak highly of them. Very good feedback.

I read the review. Some parts don’t convince me and it’s a bit repetitive; but all in all, it's fine. Bye!
