The first times I listened to it, I was taken aback since even though I knew what to expect, I was too attached to the previous albums... but once I got past the initial difficulties, it delivers a lot!

Well, closed-minded people exist, as in all genres, but let's say that usually the close-mindedness is mainly found among the old-school metalheads from the classic era (Judas, etc.), when there was still a mentality of the "defenders" encouraged, among other things, by the bands themselves. In fact, "classic" heavy metal was quite a closed and conservative genre. However, over time, more and more influences have made their way in as the genre evolved into various sub-branches, and generally, I don't believe there is a single music genre that hasn't been somehow hybridized with metal nowadays :)

But that's not true! In fact, among those I know, metalheads are among the most open-minded! I notice this phenomenon more in certain fringes of the indie movement that often label any band older than 5 years as old and useless...

But the Beatles are, let's say, both overrated and underrated... in the end, they are an excellent group in their genre, certainly historically significant, both as a social phenomenon and for bringing certain experiments into mainstream music; of course, some Beatles fans tend to be a bit fanatical and attribute to them the invention of all post-classical music genres, but that's another story.

But do the second wave thrash bands like Forbidden deserve it? I always find rather contrasting opinions...

I know that everyone usually points to Master as their masterpiece, but I've always preferred the rawer Kill 'Em All, in my opinion without a weak moment and containing Four Horsemen, which is my favorite song of theirs. Justice doesn't drive me crazy, even though it's good; the others are all listenable, but they've never left much of an impression on me.

great live, I wouldn't listen to them on record because being so text-based I wouldn't listen to them endlessly. however, they're a great band, quite original and reasonably deep; they manage to please me even though I generally hate rap and similar genres.
