Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Debussy - Images, Prèludes, Children's corner

I fully agree with everything telespallabob has written, who as usual proves to be a reasonable person both in areas of their expertise and in those they may know less about. @stupidgirl09: first of all, forgive my rudeness and welcome to DeBaser; I'm sorry but I hadn't noticed that this is your first review. As for your comment #26: how do you know whether or not I have a degree in piano? How do you know if I'm not your teacher in disguise? How do you know if I'm not the custodian of Benedetti Michelangeli's legacy? How do you know if I'm 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, or 80 years old? You continue to wrap yourself in a parochial arrogance with every comment, when it's well-known that Benedetti Michelangeli's performances of Debussy are generally considered reference points for this composer (who, by the way, I deeply love and I will repeat that as long as it takes). I don't understand the reason behind your puritanism, and I am honestly sorry that you did not appreciate this recording, unlike me: know that there are many others executed with much greater precision, so turn to those since you consider this one as terrible if not degenerate. To conclude, I remind you that, as you surely know, Debussy wrote this beautiful suite as educational material for his daughter, so I don't think it's a crime to add a bit of personality to a score with distinctly technical taste.

Debussy, Satie, Ravel and company, the entire impressionist-symbolist period contains my far preferred piano repertoire. This specific CD I bought years ago in the bargain bin of a shopping center and it's part of a series of budget CDs (I paid 4.90 euros and I have about twenty titles from this series), but I have several other recordings of the "Children's Corner". The outrageous disdain and even the shameful 1 you give to this CD honor your nickname: Benedetti Michelangeli was a great pianist who often allowed himself to make microscopic purely expressive changes to the scores he performed. Destroying an entire CD for a mordent and a few extra notes means destroying Gould's "Goldberg Variations" because you can hear him humming in the background: it seems like an enormous exaggeration to me. So enormous that you deserve a 1.

I would like to preface that there are also immense NYC-based groups with Japanese singers like Cibo Matto (Yuko now solo + Miho now with Gorillaz + Sean Lennon), who are never sufficiently lamented. A good review for a good album that gently fits into the contemporary scene. The flaw, perhaps, lies in the fact that it blends in with too much gentleness without proposing any defined urgencies that make it stand out from the average of current productions. It doesn’t have much to say, but it says it well. @UhuhPanicoUhuh: thank you for the appreciation! ;)

Great film, probably the only masterpiece by Costner that will go down in history. I don't give it 5 stars because, although it’s a film of evident value, I find moments of forced emotion and a certain didacticism that at times becomes hard to digest and weighs the film down (two flaws that characterize many films from the Bush I era).

A brief review, but it's a good one. I only know the singles from the album, but that's enough for me to define "Requiem" as very, very good: "Canos" and "Isacco nucleare" are worthy of a full 5 stars, and I am convinced that with the next album they will achieve them.

@nes: maybe I’ve already written this somewhere else, I don’t know, but I’m happy to repeat that I find "Fantasia" to be the most absolutely genius film ever made (animated or not, I mean) and one of the cornerstones of 20th-century art. At the time, it was awarded a special Oscar, and one must be blind or ill-intentioned not to give it 5 stars, those 5 stars that no Italian critic has yet had the courage and intelligence to assign (if you know otherwise, let me know because all the dictionaries I've consulted range between 3 and 4). That said, even a film with less lofty ambitions like the musical comedies of the '90s has its merits, and if made well enough to serve as a precedent to be regarded as a model, they can aspire to those 5 stars.

I stopped reading when I found the word "invertito" in the third paragraph (a word worthy of Minister Carfagna); after that, I just skimmed the review, picking out the bold words, and that was enough for me to understand the heap of absolute nonsense that only an indoctrinated, ignorant Berlusconian could spout, like saying that the BR are worthy representatives of communism when even the most communist of communists would say they are criminals (who, by the way, were produced by a system that allowed them to exist). I didn’t read the text, so I won’t vote, but I eagerly await the surely five-star review of "Barbarossa" by Martinelli that De Lorenzo will propose to us in a few days.

@Contemplation: indeed, my comment wasn't a critique of an otherwise good review, it's just that I love Ravel! ;)

@nes: yes, in 1992 Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" was nominated for the Best Picture statuette; while I agree that the Oscars are a commercial and populist award and hold as much artistic recognition as a dog poop that has been stepped on, I’m also convinced that nominating a cartoon alongside "JFK" and "The Silence of the Lambs" (the latter won the award) is a great signal that indicates a film's value transcends the method by which it is made (something I’ve always been sure of and always will be). P.S.: I love the Disney movies from the '90s, including those you mentioned (stunning "Mulan" and "Tarzan").

Good review, but it could have been better given the subject being reviewed.
