Lagrene has been one of my idols, a touch that platoons of guitarists dream about at night. You have to feel it.

I’m completely lost in Zen Arcade; I love it in the music, the ideas, the lyrics. It will have its time, sooner or later. But first, all the others, as is right. Great review, Lewis.

I wanted to rate the review, not the album.

cofras, I believe you were referring to me in your comment. Let me explain further to avoid any misunderstanding.
First of all, I’m not a purist of anything (I think there’s nothing wrong with being a purist, by the way; everyone does as they please), and I’m the first to prefer reviews that are heartfelt and written with the aim of conveying a feeling. The historical context was introduced by the reviewer, not by me. I merely emphasized that if we really want to trace bossa nova back to a historical period, it might be better to think of the late '50s rather than '63 or '64. That's all.

So... I might be wrong, but reducing the phenomenon of bossa nova to Pelé and Garrincha, or to the beaches of Copacabana, is truly reductive. If you wanted to contextualize the album, you could have mentioned the entire political movement of the late '50s, President Kubitschek, "50 em 5," the construction of the capital Brasília. Bossa nova was the musical expression of a country that was moving forward, confident in the future, and many "natives" look back on that period with nostalgia.
Honestly, I don't love this album or this bossa nova period of Getz that much. First, because these albums are primarily commercial endeavors. Second, when you compare this Stan Getz to the one who dueled with Gillespie or Sonny Stitt, well... all the Jazz Samba in the world disappears from the universe :) Bye just
