Francesco De Gregori Alice Non Lo Sa

A very pleasing review. De Gregori remains one of our greatest poets of music, perhaps the greatest alongside De Andrè.

I quote CoolOras and ask you: post-grunge who? I don't remember the song, I know other ones by Muse.

Good job, and if you want some advice, don't pay too much attention to certain comments... The collection in question is pointless.

Blackdog, I’m sorry, but every time I read one of your posts, I get a headache... Yours is a question to file away and take out in 5 or 10 years, when everything will be in perspective. The first impression I had of "Accelerate" is better than the one I had of "Monster," but I believe that time will sort everything out, as always.

We were just missing the fourth Gialappo...

Indeed, the analysis I did was quite reductive, but I didn't want to write an essay on it. I don't discuss the P&G, I listened to the album and I liked it a lot, it's a shame it remained an isolated case. Anyway, it's more likely that someone is attributed a piece "in the style of R.E.M." rather than the opposite; I can assure you that I've caught their new song on the radio several times over the years and realized it was R.E.M. before the singing even started. I agree that they are not the band for those looking for heavy distortions, bone-crushing riffs, or pachydermic grooves...

I want to say that at different times in my life I have listened to vastly different things, each time thinking I knew better than those who listened to something else; now, that I no longer have that Manichean view of the world, I regret to see that here on DeBaser many behave like I did at 15 or 20... The human case is those who still don't get it this time.

Alexander77, in my opinion, Monster Magnet draws heavily from Hawkwind, yet sounds more catchy, while Pride & Glory clearly pays homage to southern rock, making it just a bit heavier. So which is better, these or R.E.M.? I wouldn't know; it's like comparing apples and oranges: very different things, but both edible.
R.E.M. also has their influences, appropriately acknowledged and paid tribute to, but unlike the two groups you mentioned, they have freed themselves from these influences and managed to create their own unique and hard-to-imitate style; the only references available to define "Accelerate" are found in the band's own past, while "Monster" was, yes (as said by others, and I agree), grunge and noise, but still a failed attempt that lacked inspiration, although it contained 3 or 4 songs that later became classics.

Blackdog... No. Here there are beautiful (even breathtaking) songs that were missing in "Monster," except for 2 or 3 episodes.

For me, it's way better than "Monster"... At the time, that album was a huge disappointment.
