You've piqued my curiosity...but this thing about the masking of the self in a singer-songwriter, I don't know...I didn't get it.

Well, now that you’ve clarified, I’d say I agree more :D! My comment was mainly to say that it’s become hard to tell whether someone gives a 1 because they dislike the reviewer, or because they just can’t stand a genre that has already been one of the most trashed and scarred in recent years. In fact, I don’t think it’s really tied to the band, considering: a) 70% has never even heard of them (and especially hasn’t followed them) b) in the genre they hold their own quite well, so if you simply don’t like this style from the outset, it’s fair to give them a one on PBP. Millencolin are among those honest bands with a simple and calm career; I don’t see why they should be trashed... there are millions of reviews of far more pointless bands that have high ratings for no good reason (maybe they get a massive score out of sympathy) and a ton of pop punk or melodic HC albums that get 5 stars and then have 1/2 later (underrated!) when they show up in the home page (I have strange perversions about this... hehehe seeing some of the 5 stars again, for example). Well, I’ve said what I needed to say. :)

Pennybridge is the best of Millencolin for me! I don’t love the early ska punk, and honestly, while I appreciate the effort in Home From Home to take a turn, I prefer them like this :) .. To be truthful, though, I don’t agree (or maybe I just didn’t understand) with the beginning of the review: Kingwood is quite connected to the sounds of PBP, maybe listening to Home From one could feel a bit disoriented.

Anyway, aside from that, the CD is really nice for the genre! Now, surely the avalanche of ones will start and things like that (for heaven's sake, maybe there was already a review on Deb and that would have been enough!)! Honestly, it bothers me, not because I consider Millencolin essential/transcendental/absolute etc., but because the aversion to this genre stems from factors of dubious logical nature.

Just because pop punk (and anyway, Millencolin are not just pop punk) has been pushed onto MTV (and not just once but twice by Green Day) and has then led to speculation with utterly terrible (with three m's) depressing bands, it doesn’t mean everything is on the same level! It’s not objective! There are developments in music, there are groundbreaking bands, but then there’s a ton of them with their small/great or medium qualities! And here on Deb, they will make up 70%! I don’t understand why in other genres we don’t give a 1 to all these bands!

And now I'll give Millencolin a 4! Long live the ballad (my anthem as a teenager! :D)
