Pearl Jam Ten

I had a strange relationship with this album. I immediately loved Vitalogy by Pearl Jam, which remains my favorite along with No Code. Ten didn't convince me completely at first; now I can say it's a good album, but not a masterpiece. In particular, I think the album dips a bit in the second half (Deep, Garden in particular). In any case, it's good, even though the best, I repeat, will come later, in my opinion. A band that I've re-evaluated a lot in recent times.

Beyond the evaluation of the album, the funniest thing about the review is precisely the fact of having understood nothing, absolutely nothing about the album.

I have never seen this. The first one I saw by Mretti was the splendid Ecce bombo.

I liked it a lot. The album is good, a 3.5.

I don't know, dlf, I don't understand where the "unbearable syrupiness" would be. The fact that he can make certain poetry accessible to everyone is a great merit; and about winning the Oscar—well, he won it with La vita è bella. Now, tastes are tastes, of course, but are you really questioning the value of that film?! Because it makes me want to respond like I read here on deb regarding something else: "subjectivity is fine, but there are some objectivities, damn it!" :D Are you telling me that film is a bit of a sellout? I honestly can't understand what you mean. That film communicated something immense to everyone, worldwide, in the simplest way possible, and you have to be great to do that, not "a bit of a sellout." Moreover, it's a beloved and acclaimed film practically everywhere, and here we snobbishly say that "that film is a bit of a sellout, that Benigni was better before, that now he's too nice and a bit of a sellout, etc." I wrote a review on La vita è bella precisely because the two existing ones ranged from delirious to shameful to utterly nonsensical. I really like Monni, dlf, but comparing him to Benigni—who, by the way, has very little in common with him—is on another level, objectively speaking. Then with comment 8, I drew inspiration from your comment to share my thoughts on something I had already read on deb; I understood that you do love Benigni but criticize him practically from the moment he became a global phenomenon. Everyone has their own opinion, of course, but I wanted to emphasize this point.

truly wonderful review. Keppalle always hears the same old refrain about the soft-hearted, opportunistic Benigni of today who wouldn’t hold a candle to the original Benigni. This man has produced films like "Il piccolo diavolo," "Il mostro," "Jhonny stecchino," "La tigre e la neve," "Non ci resta che piangere" (not to mention the masterpiece "La vita è bella"). Every time he puts on a show or appears on television, it’s an event not to be missed; the shows "Tutto Benigni" are milestones of comedy, not to mention the value of his interpretation of the Divine Comedy. I don’t understand what "buonista e paraculo" would mean. He is an artist whose evolution leaves people speechless, and yet here he is attacked and labeled "buonista e paraculo." Well...

When I think of "art," among other things, I think of the "freedom to make mistakes."
