Scaruffi is not entirely wrong but the truth is far from him. It may very well be true that the Beatles are overhyped, but one cannot say that certain touches, like some in Revolver and others in Pepper and The Beatles, did not precede something more advanced. It's true, Sgt. Peppers was made in 7 months with an orchestra, Pink Floyd did it in 4 and with half the time in the same year. So what? Does that mean their music isn't avant-garde? You want an example (perhaps the most relevant)? Tomorrow Never Knows, 1966. After that, of course, how can we not mention as avant-garde Revolution N.9 et similia? I admit that the period of Beatlemania might not be the best of the fab four, but one needs better-constructed reasons to slap a 5 out of 10 on Revolver and the post-66 albums. Scaruffi offers a page full of reasons, but there's very little that holds true (bah!). Very little indeed.

I quote sickman. If there is originality and beauty, it doesn't matter how a guitar is played. Kirkwood from the Meat Puppets didn't even know 3 chords, yet with the guitar he could be fantastic. Cobain had no minimum of potential guitar-wise, yet with three or four chords repeated to the point of obsession, he churned out Bleach. The same goes for Ginn, D. Boon. There could be a thousand names to mention.

"What they have turned grunge into makes it an easy target for anyone looking to build a solid 'alternative' reputation, and in reaction, many get caught up in the revisionist syndrome of Jello Biafra, known as 'Nostalgia for an age that never existed.' Spot on."

No gummo, come on, all in all it's not that bad for the skins if you put it together with White's ideas. Sure, technically... it's scandalous. But it's got that dirty sound with the screaming cymbals that really tells us.

Not so beautiful in my opinion, perhaps too much the same. Well, it doesn't say anything, not very innovative, too 1950s. Anyway, nice review, very sentimental.
