Ornette Coleman & Prime Time Tone Dialing

@holdsworth: "I realized that Parker and Bebop and Davis are a cut above." Sorry, but why rank such different artists? In rock, no one would dream of saying, "David Bowie is better than Bruce Springsteen"; instead, they would say, "They're both great for different reasons, I simply prefer one over the other." @Melissa: are you pulling my leg? ;-) Generally, I don't mind these innocent provocations, but I find it hard to believe that you don't know Chick Corea isn't Asian but of Italian descent... Do you like ABBA and the Supremes? And what's wrong with that? :-)

Talking about Ornette brings up a lot of positive feelings, and I believe this is clearly visible in the comment pages. His great simplicity, availability, openness to everything and everyone has a magical quality. I have never had the fortune to meet him in person, but I can imagine what those present felt...

Thank you Giulia, what a question! I'm not the expert you say I am; there are people in here who know much more than I do... Anyway, I'll dive in. I recommend three albums by Miles Davis: "Kind Of Blue," "ESP," and "Bitches Brew," three masterpieces that have been excellently reviewed on debaser, very different from each other, belonging to three distinct decades, and showcasing the immense influence Davis had on 20th-century music. Listen to them, then check the list of musicians involved. Each of them is a current that forms part of this vast ocean that is jazz. No need to mention them all. Delve into whoever you want and who inspires you the most: wherever you land, you'll land well.

Yes, Denardo Coleman is not what you would call a monster on the drums... Nevertheless, it seems to me that he sounds better than the drummer of Tokio Hotel! ;-) I believe that his contribution to the production and dissemination of Ornette's music should not be underestimated. Probably the fact that his son takes care of the "business" side relieves Ornette of quite a bit of stress...

I almost forgot the rating... Anyway, I think a track-by-track can work, especially if it's written with discretion and good taste like in this case. Personally, I've written much worse... ;-)
