Great review, doc. As a fan of Larry Carlton, I can only agree with your statement that "the convent offers better than a compilation"... I really like "Smiles and Smiles to Go", "10 P.M." is outstanding, as are (almost) all the tracks from "Sleepwalk". I would have included something from "Strikes Twice" as well... @omahaceleb: Larry Carlton has openly admitted to having copied... Uh, to having been inspired by the chord progression of "Peg" by Steely Dan when he composed "Room 335".

Curiously, "Wishful" resembles the theme that Armando Trovajoli wrote for the film "Riusciranno i nostri eroi..." with Alberto Sordi and Nino Manfredi. Amenities aside, it's a good fusion album, played with excellent skill. Sometimes the sound feels a bit dated, especially in the faster tracks. The slower pieces seem more successful, "Hopeless" is my favorite. I would stick with a three and a half.

"Scofield, in addition to possessing remarkable guitar technique, also has the rare gift of great inventiveness and an almost inexhaustible creative 'vein'..." I agree, doctor, I would have given the album a 4.5. Swallow as a producer is a godsend for any musician, and Grolnick, bless his soul, knew "where to put his hands" in the music. Great little record. Nice cover, although nowadays Scofield is quite a bit balder...

Besides the fact that I was quoting someone else, come on, those words are now part of the vocabulary... Alright. The sbrisolona is good, although in this heat I feel more like having ice cream than anything else.

"Today is a celebration in Latin countries, Spain has won the Europeans"... Well, I seemed to recall that the Spaniards, as former rulers, were not particularly loved in South American countries... The review is well written, the fact is that the good Santana has been "dead" artistically for quite some time now. Putting together "Black Magic Woman" with "Corazon Espinado"... Ugh...
