Giuseppe Tornatore Baarìa
Voto:
I missed the last day of screening; I think I’ll wait for it on DVD, even though I don't really have that much desire to see it. Among Italian directors at the Oscars, Tornatore is the one I prefer the least. Say what you want, but I found "Nuovo cinema paradiso" to be unbearably boring. Tornatore's cinema, as Omegabass rightly points out, is characterized by redundancy (except for "La sconosciuta," which is really beautiful). Brief review (Because "you have to say succinctly that...", you can take as much space as you want).
Claude Chabrol L'Enfer - L'inferno

"The Darkness in the Mind," which I read a nice review of on deb, is perhaps my favorite among the (few) Chabrol films I've seen... "L'enfer" simply doesn't compare.
Beyoncé I Am... Sasha Fierce (disc 2: Sasha Fierce)
Voto:
Well, talking about free thoughts doesn't seem entirely fair, since phrases like "it's that kind of 'music' carefully crafted by marketing experts funded by record labels and multinationals, to whose birth MTV largely contributed" have become cliché, heard everywhere. We had no doubt that true "pop" culture ended along with its theorist, and that we are in an era of rampant consumerism, "what matters is to appear," and substance-less extravagance (Forgive me for the rhyme), that is equally true. But putting Beyoncé in the same gaudy golden box as a Paris Hilton seems like an exaggeration; confusing the allure of glamour with plain trash is chilling. It's like pairing Giorgia and Jo Squillo: the former might not be to everyone’s taste, but the latter... In the same way, I find it unfair to mention Carey for the gold toilets, forgetting that we owe her masterpieces of pop ("Musicbox" above all), and this can't be overlooked, just as it’s too easy to slam Madonna now. I regret to see you writing about Boybands without the slightest understanding of the phenomenon. Boybands are a European phenomenon, with the English Take That as the genre's forefather. The Backstreet Boys started in the USA as a simple vocal group, but when they hit Europe, they had the impact they had. As for Beyoncé, she didn’t just enter Destiny's Child out of nowhere; she founded it (And come on...you could have taken a peek at Wikipedia!) with the aim of presenting themselves to the public as the successors of a genre that mixed pop, dance, and R'n'B, initiated by three young black ladies around thirty years earlier: the "Supremes," never heard of them? Then she struck out on her own, and global critics, in addition to recognizing her pretty powerful voice (because she’s not tone-deaf) have discerned in her records the influence of her inspirations, people like Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Donna Summer...but perhaps they're too "pop" for you. Let it be clear, I'm not a fan of the genre. But if you truly wanted to be taken seriously while negatively describing "I am...Sasha Fierce," you could have discussed something else, for example, that the double album, one to scream to the world "I'm a mature artist and I sing powerful ballads," the other for dance-loving fans, is a clever tactic. Instead, you went for the easy route, because this is an easy review. Don't get me wrong, you write really well, with fluidity and linguistic precision, but it's all filled with clichés and inaccuracies because it's obvious that you don't like the subject matter. So, instead of wasting your talents on something you're not interested in, why not dedicate yourself to genres that resonate more with you, to artists you love but who have disappointed you, etc., etc.... I believe something better would come out of it.
Claude Chabrol Il buio nella mente

I liked the film a lot; I still remember how puzzled I was by the ending. I agree with the remark regarding Chabrol's women; Huppert is great. However, Chabrol also let me down.
Lars Von Trier Antichrist
Voto:
Not seen yet... I've heard conflicting opinions (Based on personal statistics, the negative ones prevail) and with a title like that, it seems more like a trick than anything else, who knows.

I haven't seen the film yet, but von Trier doesn't seem too bad as a director (especially "Melancholia")...nice review.

The review is really well written (you almost made me want to publish something, which is saying a lot, believe me…). As for the group, I’m not sure what to say; I think it’s still early to express my thoughts on that. The piece is easy to absorb; it’s been swirling in my head for a while, but it doesn’t excite me that much. Anyway, regarding their participation in "X Factor," I really don’t see anything wrong with it. I believe it’s a talent show of value, much, much, much better than that half-hearted spectacle of "Amici." It’s undeniable that XF offers voices with more personality and pieces of greater stature (In Amici, at most, they offer "Deja Vu" or "Crazy in Love"; it takes quite a bit of courage to showcase different music in prime time). Giusy Ferreri herself, although she doesn’t quite resonate with me, is certainly not Tatangelo; on the contrary...

I honestly don't know. I've never seen it and most likely I never will. Anyway, what a piece of crap movie on the home... Petri aside... Nice review.
