I used to like it a lot, but over time it lost its charm, maybe due to the production being too 80s. 3.5

"First rock'n'roll." Perfect. Your review, besides being excellent, is balanced, which I can't manage when listening to this album. There are tracks that I almost skip and that make me lean towards it being a minor episode in his discography. Then there are "when margaret.." and "brothers" (I have no words to describe what Aronoff pulls off) combined with the stripped-down, bare-bones sound as you say, that make it my favorite (not the best) of his discography excluding "human wheels." If I had been his manager-producer, for the follow-up, I would have locked him in the studio with Aronoff and York and that's it. Voice, drums, and a splash of guitar; honestly, at that point, I was expecting it, hoping for it. It’s okay if he then went in the opposite direction; he remains a great Rocker. 4.5 for the album. 5 for you.

You said it well, an album full of diverse sounds, featuring an incredible sound from Saunders. I would like to mention my favorite, "Anthem," which closes, to my knowledge, his best album. 4.5

Blackmore is hard for me to digest in any form, but you are not.
