I no longer enjoy writing on this site, but today it is absolutely necessary to do so: In my opinion (and I know I'll make many of you angry), technically it is overrated, regardless of the brilliant insights about timbre, effects, etc... In short, an innovator for sure, but not a great performer (before being lynched, just know that a certain Blackmore thinks the same...; Spirit shame on you for having thought such a thing! Of course, Blackmore is truly a great connoisseur of music, as evidenced by his recent medieval dance excursions...)
