Billy Wilder Giorni Perduti (The Lost Weekend)

Ah, setting aside stylistic considerations, the typewriter episode also has an autobiographical significance... the thirty-year-old Wilder, just arrived in America with few possessions, ended up selling his own to make ends meet!

Oh, yes-yes, here we are, indeed, despite the Academy Awards!!! (Of course, this reviewing alter ego seems to be a bit more respectful of the "Mereghetti style" ;) In the mood for Wilderian florilegia, when will we see a review of "Stalag 17"?!....

But look at this beautiful meatloaf that’s here! And with an apostrophe and the accent, in parentheses, we enjoy it well seasoned too... Ouch, ouch, Poletti, get ready for the chef’s whacks!!!

@ Supersoul: it must have been the "Pignoletto" I drank the other day! Anyway, just to be clear, I really like Wilder, it’s just that I don’t consider this one of his 5-star films (I prefer his works that are more openly "ferocious", yet still subtly ironic). And now the poke: predictable that a detractor of psychoanalysis (Rorschach, huh ;) would have a soft spot for good old Billy (but he, having been shown the door at a young age by Herr Freud, is more than excusable)...

Shot in Treviso and its surroundings, but to avoid problems it was "wisely advised" to avoid excessive toponymic specificity. @ Poletti: as a Venetian, I can assure you that to my "fellow countrymen" the implication of being "bigoted" has made neither hot nor cold, while that of being "faithless" has caused a bit more discomfort ; ). Seen today, anyway, the film does not seem that disturbing (personally, I appreciate works that are muuuuch more "nasty").

Happy New Year everyone... this way I lift the weight off my shoulders... anyway, even though he took American citizenship, Herr Wilder was Austrian (my cinematic crusade against "stars & stripes" is not something I've left behind ; ) P.S.: Wilder often wrote the scripts in bits and pieces, just before shooting the specific scenes, leaving some room for actor improvisation...

Center! But I'm in it again if it displeases her... after all, it's not that easy to "trick the human race when you only have limited means"! ; )

Uh-uh, speaking of unrelated POSTS... I thought it was about PABST... but I was wrong... well, maybe another time.

Anatas...go read the other reviews and, above all, the comments on Crowbar on DeBaser...you'll notice a certain resemblance to many "quotes" from "Ramoncello" (who obviously played the ironic juggler in this case ; )
