Shellac + Allroh Live @ Szene - Vienna 07.05.2008

Reading between the lines, it becomes quite clear why Albini can afford to change a string live without compromising the timing of certain tracks ; )... I haven’t heard the latest album, but, coincidentally, the new Three Second Kiss (okay, different stuff and pedigree) also seems very "conceptual" to me... Wien is sublime (I spent almost a month there under the pretext of preparing my thesis and the mandatory visits to the film archives... ending up writing a three-page paper with references to cinèsti KaKanici... but Karl Kraus, on the other hand, was the most cited in terms of bibliographical notes), yet the fact that it has thrilled a Neapolitan surprises me quite a bit...

Ok... I ramble and pontificate... "Ego te absolvo!!!"... To my senses, it’s much more enjoyable to listen to than "Pocket Revolution"... the tracks are more linear and cohesive, while not entirely denying the classic dEUS spacing... those that in the previous album, however, seemed like gratuitous dissertations devoid of understanding, shards whirled into crumbled pieces (the "electro/lo-fi" excipients had effects similar to Guttalax)... here they maintain a more sober profile and that benefits them... little songs perhaps a bit harmless, but at least not laxative... and that's enough for me!

What does Capovilla have to do with the Agnus Dei???!

Aaaaahhhh.. in the end, you're going to expire on me this time... Resnais, you can't throw him into the raw citationism pro-Shellac (I'll be the "electrist" from hell: Alain shouldn't even be brought in as a softener to freshen up the delicate clothes that have been through the washing machine of your beloved "Sonic Youth," they'll never have the slightest gradient of "stimmung" necessary!!!... another story, and another nation, much more suitable for the Einstürzende...). Everything else is fine.

Well, I might be ignorant, but Hart as a relevant trademark really only had the use of the splash upon hitting the note (hi-hat, or Charleston as you wish to call it, and assorted syncopations were poorly forced taboos, and the crash didn’t even seem to exist). I won't argue about the production... it "penalized" 99% of the "independent" bands of that time... but regarding the symptomatic use of cymbals by the Huskers, I can say that in the official live "The Living End," it’s heard too much, and it’s a dull clang that covers every dynamic more than Mould's guitar!!! As for the rhythmic contribution in the introductory phase, I would opine that any good soul would throw a pitying veil over the work of bass and drums in a piece like... I don't know... "Celebrated Summer"????
Laghetto Sonate in bu minore per quattrocento scimmiette urlanti

I Melt Banana less obstinate, and Fugazi much more agnostic... Neurosis who, if you mention New Age, reply "Auggh, Squaw!"... and Refused who take the liberty to eulogize a dying Fallaci, explaining how the ontology of illness was evidently certified in her personal (that’s right) birth certificate (another album, already mentioned)... (if Elio e le Storie tese had ever been young and sentient in 2000, they might have been akin to Laghetto!)(In any case, they can really play, and if they occasionally remind you of Dillinger Escape Plan, Coalesce, or Psyopus... you’re not necessarily feverish!).

Mmmmh...,Il_Paolo: to avoid the risk of temporal discrepancies that might prove foundational, in this case, I would take the example of bands more relevant to the period in question, such as The Minutemen or Pere Ubu.

So many beautiful things, and what philological disputes... um, just a little something for Doctor Vinsex(orix): the idea that Plautus might have stolen some prosody from Terence seems quite implausible to me; certainly, the annalistic dates are not 100% reliable, but when we suppose that Tito Maccio left this "valley of salty jokes," Publio Afro was roughly 1 year old (and it is known that, in those days, a playwright so precocious was already well-formed and basically "done" at such an advanced age ; ).

I admit I am not deeply familiar with Schulze's vast discography (that's something I lack), but I have listened to some of it, so if I can offer some personal purchasing advice for his "historic" work, I would recommend "X" (one of his most varied and "colorful" albums, already well-reviewed here) and the almost contemporary "Dune" (with influences of voices and cello, where I can even see references to certain experiments by Bartok).

Just a small note, discussing "ambient music ante litteram" seems philologically correct to me only if we want to align this terminology with Eno's "copyrighted" coinage.
