The definition of Monk is perfect to describe him... I mean, no: it would be the "ugly" copy of Burial with an "even whinier" voice of Antony layered on top. I've already said crap about him, but I have to admit that, in the end, like chamomile or valerian, it does its job... it helps you sleep. Then I have to throw in a bit more crap, so be careful not to overdo it; an overdose can have deadly laxative effects :)

Wow, what a great year for genre releases (2001); on one side: "Drukqs" by Aphex Twin, "Confield" by Autechre, "Fyuti" by Bola, "Endless Summer" by Fennesz, "Pause" by Four Tet, "A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure" by Matmos, "Cinemascope" by Monolake, "Go Plastic" by Squarepusher... on the other, some more "mainstream" but still appealing stuff: Björk, Daft Punk, Modjo, Röyksopp. Then comes the first "Telefonata da Tel Aviv" and everyone is in agreement and in a state of contemplative ecstasy ; ). Great Album (4.5 but I'm gladly rounding up "in memoriam"! ).

Oh yes, indeed Mister "Conjunctivitis" seems to have gotten fed up and wants to dedicate himself to his wife and child (who knows if it's related to the fact that, with his newfound fame, he's become mostly a "bear" gay icon ;), anyway "David Comes to Life" remains the refined and expertly distilled culmination of over 10 years of struggles, which sounds way less "punk" than Iceage, who cares; the 4 Danes might have the attitude, but this is what it is, the melodic parts are embarrassingly banal and when they try to "rail" they don't even come close to a concept of "noise" worthy of the term (with the exception of the illusory "Intro"), credit to the drummer, who, bless him, at least tries to raise the stakes of the rhythm, too bad none of the others pay attention, and, last but not least, the lobotomized singing is enough on its own to ruin everything, zero angry/yelled drive and even less the ability to deliver a healthy dose of face-spitting sarcasm. Gnà, they really don't convince me...

The "Intro" would promise well... the rest, as a friend of mine who is a transalcoholic would say: "It's Totally Crap!". But really, did someone try to put them on the same level as the "Fucked Up"???!!

Ahahahah, yes, they really act like it, last March, for example, after the concert at the Deposito Giordani in Pordenone, Roby had gotten behind the bar to prepare drinks because (ipse dixit) in the last year and a half it was "better for her to be a bartender than a bassist!" (basically, it seems the big payments from the major label contract were only enough to cover the recording reels and the chickens’ feed, so for the maintenance of the "studio/coccodè" ;). Bone Feste Giente!

No bullshit, they created and defined a genre more than anyone else, here lies a significant part of the evolving approach for the "Noughties"!!!

I would use the term "Shoegaze" as well if it weren't rather overused in the last 2/3 years for quite different types of productions; however, there are quite a few overdubs of differently affected guitars here. Interesting direction taken (3.5).

The dilemma of the porcupine. One Pino placed his penis INSEGNO, and another Pino paid the SCOTTO: "Stay right here," he said to him: "I'll t'INSEGNO how to dip the biSCOTTO!"

In the power forward role, however, no one was as "fun" (in the sense of "entertaining to watch play") as "Sheed" Wallace (his record of technical fouls called against him will be quite hard to surpass for anyone ;).

Well, without being too ashamed of it, I've been following them since their beginnings and... This is the first (double) album that hit me so quickly; I mean, maybe it's their best (self)produced work ever, but apart from a handful of really enjoyable tracks (all on the first disc), and another "little punch" of more "zzztrane" things made by Luchino with almost exclusively synth and drums (all on the second disc), the rest is a sequence of bite-sized pieces that are well presented but I really struggle to remember their individual flavors; in short, a lot of stuff but not exactly "memor(izz)able" ;)
