...and anyway, I'll say it once again, I don't see commercial success, even if it's overestimated, as a flaw; if I like a record, I like it regardless of whether it's also listened to by kids or ladies in menopause...

I wasn't just talking about the Grunge scene, but in general. However, specifically, I think there were much better bands compared to those from the Seattle Scene that unfortunately received less recognition. Do the Pixies fit as a name for you? With this, I'm not saying that the bands you mentioned made bad records; on the contrary, it's just that if I have to limit myself to the music and not the sociology, I find that they sold significantly more than they could have aspired to if it weren't for all that media bam bam.

Honestly, I don't find it that difficult to separate; I listen to an album and then draw my conclusions without thinking about the sociological or cultural implications. Starting from this perspective, I've come (subjectively) to form a very clear idea about various musical experiences. Personally, I think that if one can separate Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and others from the Grunge scene, they made excellent albums, but not so important as to justify the popular acclaim they received. From this, I draw (always subjectively) the conclusion that they were heavily aided by other factors (media and otherwise) not too different from those that promote mass Pop phenomena. But from that to saying they suck is a long way off. If for once everyone could accept this, perhaps certain misunderstandings would not occur...

In my opinion, you are romanticizing a bit too much about this story of what is pure and what is not...with all due respect, I think we're entering the realm of purely subjective here...

Second thing, music is also image, or rather, above all, image, so it's impossible to separate it from the musical context NoiseNotMusic | Date: 8/1/2008 | Rating: — | Album Rating: —

Well, it's not that at the beginning Pearl Jam didn't ride the success of the Grunge phenomenon and at the same time released at least three great albums (up to the one you mentioned), that's quite clear. I would tend to distinguish between the two things; not everyone who capitalizes on trends does horrible things, and that's certainly not the case here. It's also not fair to blame those who questioned the authenticity of what Cobain offered for his tragic act, because if that were the case, we'd see mass suicides in showbiz... the guy probably took his own life because he was struggling internally and couldn't handle the weight of the events happening around him. Let's stop making baseless assumptions, no offense intended.

Well, I knew that intervening here would be a mistake, and now I'm being accused of collusion without reason. I'm not justifying anyone; in a previous post, I wrote: "I believe these reactions are not correct, regardless of the provocation, but in general, to argue you need to have at least two people, and therefore I don't pass judgment other than to dissociate myself from that type of reaction." Number 87... I knew it was a mistake, but I did it because Flin dragged me into matters I didn't want to and still don't want to get into (does that seem like I'm justifying him?). I wanted to express my distance from this. Specifically, I reiterated that I don't know the reasons that led Flin to react so excessively; in Post 83, I said, "Regarding relations with Flin, I must quote the good Bartle, but I cannot express myself about the 'vivid photograph' since I don't know what it refers to." This doesn't seem like approval to me, right? Honestly, Flin has always treated me fairly, and it seems a bit unfair that pointing this out is seen as an act of collusion or justification towards the user in question. Do I seem like the kind of person who justifies vulgarity or offensiveness? To me, it doesn't appear so. That's why I intervened to distance myself from any developments in this matter. Moreover, since the hornet's nest here was caused by a certain Aura, can we be sure it's a Flin fake? I know there's a subterranean DeB where many weave invisible relationships, and I know nothing about it. Therefore, you will have more information than I do about this hidden world, which I honestly don't care for. I hope I’ve clarified. Bye!
