I would like to thank everyone who participated in the forum of my first review for the passion demonstrated. Hoping there are no teetotalers, I would like to offer everyone a virtual Guinness or even a pint of cider. Long live Ireland and the Waterboys! Long live Italy with its waltz and coffee as well. See you soon on the pages of this beautiful site from djmushroom.

A song has to resonate with you; it should move you right away. In my opinion, there's no need for any particular explanations. The two songs in question may be beautiful, with lovely lyrics, but they leave me feeling like I've taken Valium. A song should make you enjoy 5 minutes of your time. No need for deep, cerebral explanations.

It's not that I wanted to compare Dalla and Fossati. I was just saying that I don't think I'm being snobbish if I assert that Dalla's best albums are the ones everyone likes, while Fossati's best ones are those with the canzonettame. It was more of a response to voiceface. Of course, if I wanted to score all 5, I would say that Caruso and Quello che le donne non dicono are masterpieces, but doesn't one have the right to write what they believe?

Primiballi, we don't understand each other. Voiceface says I'm snobbish because I have a poor opinion of two songs that most consider masterpieces, namely Caruso and Quello che le donne non dicono. I don't like them; what can I do? They are two boring songs. I didn't question that Dalla had a downward trajectory (I even wrote that in the review). I don't dispute that Fossati is cultured and makes beautiful records, but he's not for me. I prefer Fossati's earlier albums, like songs such as Panama, La signora cantava il blues, La costruzione di un amore, Di tanto amore, Vola, Dedicato, La Musica che gira intorno, but also La pianta del tè... I like that Fossati. I don't know what we're discussing. Can't I have my own tastes? Fossati's later albums are undoubtedly masterpieces, but they don't drive me crazy. That's all.

Well, voiceface, I don't know if I'm snobbish or not, but to me, Caruso seems truly mediocre. The Dalla (in my opinion, the best singer-songwriter, at least for a certain period) that I acknowledge is mainly the one from "Dalla," "Lucio Dalla," and the "Q disc," but also some songs here and there from earlier albums. Caruso is an excruciatingly boring song. I don't think I'm snobbish if I say that Dalla's most beautiful albums are the classics, and if I say that the best one by Fossati is La mia Banda suona il rock or Panama and surroundings. Or not? I never liked Quello che le donne non dicono. What can I say, that's just how I feel.

It's not that a particular comparison was intended. It was simply stated that while for Fossati (just taken as an example, but it could have been someone else) there was a turning point in his production (going from light songs, albeit of a certain level, to more complex and cultured compositions), for Ruggeri there wasn't. According to some, Ruggeri hasn't made that qualitative leap. That's all.

I listened to Macramè this afternoon. It's a bit as I expected and as I remembered. Beautiful, but in that beautiful way that doesn't suit me. I'll try to buy L'Arcangelo. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

Well, there’s heavy and then there’s heavy. For example, I love Reed (a lot), Cave, PJ Harvey, the early Cure, albums that aren’t exactly easy (just look at my rankings…). I've always viewed Fossati as cultured but heavy and boring, perhaps mistakenly (it all depends, for example, I like De André who isn’t exactly immediate...). I'll try to buy the albums you recommend. I already have Macramè on vinyl, I’ll listen to it tomorrow.

I will try to buy La disciplina della terra even though I fear it might be a bit too sophisticated for my taste. I am a pop song lover. I enjoy quality pop songs; it’s no coincidence that I really like Fossati's early albums and am less fond of his more serious work. I certainly also have a deep love for artists who do research (I have and love all of Alice's albums, for example), but fundamentally, I am a pop song lover. Well, Fossati releases an album every 3 years. If he goes on tour every 3 years with "a few concerts," you could let that slide.

I think that Fossati has made beautiful albums up to and including Pianta del tè. Le città di Frontiera, La mia banda suona il rock, and Panama e dintorni. Even Pianta del tè, which is his most engaged work, is very beautiful. After that, there are cultured albums, for heaven's sake, but heavy. However, he has the image of the classic singer-songwriter. Shy, contemplative, charismatic, with few concerts and limited television appearances, he manages his image very well, living on his hillside in Genoa, which makes him seem even more talented. Many people talk about Fossati to impress others (I don't think those who participated in this forum are among them) but they have never listened to a single album by the good Ivano.
