It may sound strange, but the more time passes, the more I think that this documentary has served as a sort of bait for the opportunistic anti-Berlusconians. I speak as someone who does not like Silvio: this film is nothing compared to "Citizen Berlusconi" or "Quando C'era Silvio," by Ruben Oliva, Enrico Deaglio, and the late Beppe Cremagnani. Those works, in my opinion, are structured with a very clear purpose. What should this one be about? The veline? The "social models"? Today's society? Television? Berlusconi? Then I also start to think (I might be wrong, but this is how I see it) that Erik Gandini has been a bit of a smart player. First the censorship from Rai and Mediaset, and then the documentary is partially aired on both Striscia La Notizia and Matrix (notoriously owned by Mediaset). A target of mockery or simply another piece of a hypothetical plan by Gandini? Be careful, what I’m saying doesn’t mean that "Videocracy" is the worst film in the world, but simply that it’s easy to cry miracle for a work that actually doesn’t bite.
