I am not afraid to listen to the anguish of life. An album, as you rightly say, perhaps underestimated for its dramatic nature and because it is so suddenly different from its predecessors. I like it a lot and I find it superior to "in the wake of poseidon" but not to the legendary first one and "lark's tongue in aspic"... but here it was already a whole different story. Excellent review, measured, balanced.

Pippo, you’re right, Marilyn was not at all stupid! A woman who says such a phrase: "I AM NOT INTERESTED IN MONEY, I JUST WANT TO BE WONDERFUL" cannot be stupid. Unfortunately, she was too beautiful to be taken seriously and very easy to hurt... she ended up with the wrong men who didn’t appreciate her; perhaps the only one who truly cared for her was Joe Di Maggio. Let’s not even talk about that monster of coldness and arrogance (he wanted to make her into what she was not and could not be, and it wasn’t right for her to be that) that was Miller... have you read her poems, Pippo?? No, she wasn’t an idiot, that woman, and maybe that’s what scared people the most about her—that she was both beautiful and intelligent. She had something the others lacked; even her flaws were marvelous. It seems in her last unfinished film they wanted to replace her with Doris Day! My goodness, it’s like expecting to replace Maradona with someone from Solbiatese!! And everyone liked her—men, women, old, young, just everyone. A true legend!

I forgot to mention that I've never read Harris's book, so my assumptions are based only on the movie... I’ll watch it again tonight.
