trellheim, sorry I didn't see your comment, no it’s not illegal, of course not, it’s always better to correct nonsense. Also, I don't think I confused the group but rather that I mixed up the album, which is Sourge Tags & Code. Well, this reviewer or supposed reviewer referred to it as math. What can I say? My knowledge is limited to the bands I mentioned and I took what he said at face value…but feel free to go back to Mogwai, it's better :-)

hella, 65daysofstatic, Shellac epochs I know other math bands, if Don Caballero are the math by antonomasia it means I will listen to them, I thought they were Hella, another piece of wrong info I picked up here and there. therealramona, your comments are always terrifyingly pointless. Kosmo, I think you’re right, it’s more pop than rock but as we know, the boundary is sometimes very thin. trellheim, I’m listening to mafonna now, I may have confused the band or the reviewer I read got carried away by the killer beats like Kosmo. I’m sorry for giving wrong information, my apologies. I will search better for the sources.

I don’t know, I read somewhere that they were inspired by Hella, and their album was called mathcore, maybe I’m remembering wrong and confusing it with another band... but there’s no need to get angry. I only have 2 albums and I would simply call them alternative rock.

I quite like it, maybe because the sound harks back to the good prog of the 70s... I mean the good stuff... the result can sometimes come across as a bit cold and mechanical, but with that overlay of frenzied rhythms and those little voices, combined with the warmth of a touch of ethno-folk music, the Battles are anything but that; I find them effervescent and entertaining. Other math rock bands include Hella, perhaps considered the most significant, and And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, who are more math core than math rock.
