ENBAR I don't know what to tell you... surely he always put something good here and there in his records. But for me, it’s not enough to save the judgment on the decade (artistically speaking) that is by far the worst of ours. It’s mostly pretty boring stuff... then again... yes, some chart-toppers (the one about frogs and once upon..). But we know his art is truly something else when it’s there. By the way, I don’t even like all the best from the 80s as a compilation. It’s too "pleasing" and packed only with the best tracks but still from the charts (again!!!). Finally, okay Flowers in the Dirt might be a good album. But even that I listened to a lot that summer of '89... then... adieu... time has passed, I have changed, I remember the beautiful cover of the vinyl, the lyrics with the purple sheet inside, and I would recognize every single track but I haven't felt like putting it on again (to make you understand, I think Memory Almost Full or Electronic Arguments - The Fireman are much better. But that’s another story ;)

ZZOT..well, I don't agree that in the '70s Macca was more polished than in the '80s (which, by the way, were the quintessential polished years). I really don't agree. It seems objectively true to me the opposite. Anyway, de gustibus.. In any case, having listened again after many years and a lot of music in between (after I listened to it non-stop in my early twenties..), it seems really dull to me, even though the band was great and the repertoire... well... we know it. It's as if it lacks a true rock energy, a real spontaneity. Even without knowing about the studio additions and so on, if you listen closely, you have to feel that the atmosphere, while very stylish, is not fresh. Macca seems to be imitating and indulging himself too much here. But I repeat, de gustibussss...

Review for me by one, but I give you two because we are both fans. The fact that you list "spies like us" (a track he himself "semi-denied" years ago) or "no more lonely nights" as the lesser evils says a lot about the perception and the taste parameters of McCartney fans here in Italy. About Macca in the '80s, apart from maybe Tug of War, nothing, nothing, nothing holds up. I bought the album in a rush as soon as it came out. I had been to Rome to (not) hear it at the unfortunate Palaeur in October '89 (sigh....). Rightly, no tracks from that concert were included in the CD. At the time, I listened to it a lot. Then it disappeared. Too polished, artificial, and overproduced. Wings over America is a thousand times better. The best live album of McCartney to this day.

I don't know why, but it reminds me of Sexy Sadie... is he the cousin of Maharishi Yogi? Peace and Love to everyone.

For me, who was born in the 70s..., the first Italian theme remains the best, then this accordion. The incorrigible Lupin for me is the inaudible Lupen. I hardly consider it at all.

I quote Punisher, who I think has been too kind. Everyone loves money, and probably good ol' Bob does too; because I believe it’s about money since the songs (or rather, his Art) are all mumbled, out of tune, and rough. Or should we think that they are intentionally "revisited" to offer fans new stimuli and perspectives?....I don’t think so. Of course, there's a sense of being taken for a ride. If Dylan had recorded the originals as he sings them (for decades) at concerts, he wouldn’t have sold even 10,000 copies throughout his career. So Dylan live? No thanks.

I don't know if in the 5 of the aficionados it weighs the fact that it's believed to be all improvised on the spot. If that's the case, I'll rate it 4 because, in my opinion, the first part, so unabashedly beautiful, is not improvised at all. The harmonic progressions don't seem improvised, nor does the melody. Especially when compared to the rest that follows. Or maybe it just has this effect because it's catchier and vaguely "commercial"... Perhaps Keith had already come up with it at home, and it stuck in his mind... Anyway, the album is very beautiful.
