Fates Warning Parallels

I quote the crazy guy in comment number 11. He sums everything up in his paragraph. Splinter, don't take it the wrong way but the impression you give (note: IMPRESSION) is that. And at the same time, I must admit that you write too well. However, your reviews, due to this passion-phobia for highly technical prog-metal (there are prog bands that are not unbelievably technical, like Everon, for example, or Fates Warning themselves... (but the list would be too long) that manage to create albums which, while not overflowing with technique, can be stunning because they’re "not empty", so, not "sterile") negatively affect your reviews.
I don't know if you can understand what I’m trying to say. A comparison with I&W is pointless because the latter is a masterpiece REGARDLESS of the monstrous technicality it’s filled with. In fact, afterwards, DT will bore me just like they will many others.

Even though I have a good culture of glam rock n' metal... these have slipped through my fingers. I'll listen to them, gosh, if I don't!

Yes, it's one of the soundtracks from Rocky III (an awful movie that made this album popular... or maybe it was the other way around, I don't know). It has become a classic for when you're working out at the gym or when you want to crush a bro.
I've never been a huge fan of Survivor, and honestly, this album isn't exactly a masterpiece of Hard Rock or AOR. There are much more valid bands out there, but fundamentally, it remains a nice little record to listen to calmly, without too many expectations. The review, however… it’s not bad but avoid the track by track, please.

this last comment is, forgive me, terribly stupid. According to you, the "caliber" of an album is measured in terms of "Technique" (or, as you say, "technical baggage"). An album can contain little or no "technical baggage" but still be, at the same time, stunning, beautiful, and timeless. Just like "Parallels" is, and yes, I also consider APSOG slightly inferior to Parallels.

I agree with dreamwarrior. This album kicks the ass of hundreds of prog or pseudo-prog albums, including Dream Theater, Symphony X, or whatever. Every track is wonderful and Only Say Goodbye is simply dreamy. I love it.

I don't know them, but from the way you talk about them, regarding their previous work, and especially the fact that it concerns nature (something very dear to me), I will give them a listen.
Good review, my friend.

And I will continue to worship him every time he suggests the bands that have made an indelible mark on music! What do you think about Cinderella, my friend? And Great White?
