Bartleboom is sure that Kubrick is not great because he invented "machines"; he is great for what he has been able to express through cinema. The cameras and lights are technical aspects that gain value through how they are used and not just in themselves.

Dear M. Poletti, I wouldn’t delve too deeply into certain discussions, as you might end up making wrong assessments and mistakes. Is it too little to say that Kubrick invented a new camera???? It’s a shame he didn’t just invent that because, if you recall well, he also developed the method for shooting scenes without additional lights or spots but using natural light. Do the candlelit scenes in "Barry Lyndon" say anything to you???? That he may not be THE greatest but ONE of the greatest, I agree with you, but not ONLY for the technical aspects.
