Beat is an immense blend of poetry and rawness within a single frame... Hana-Bi is the most explicit (perhaps too much so) and because of that, I find it less devastating compared to this one or others of his. For anyone who has never seen one of his films and wants to avoid those that are too "philosophical/poetic," I recommend the incredibly funny "Brothers" (Beat in his American tour).

Certainly, Embraceable, Round, Laura are themes written by others; he actually didn’t compose much, and many pieces he invented were based on pre-existing standards or even on works by Stravinsky. However, he made those pieces his own, even the ones he explicitly borrowed (hence I imagine the title Parker Mood), just like Laura can be defined as a rewritten theme... anyway, you’re right...
