Beautiful review, the film is permeated with a breathtaking nostalgia and is stunning, but it probably wouldn’t even make it into a potential list of mine (that I would never create) in the top 100.

I agree with you that comparing Welles to Shakespeare is a gigantic bullshit (a parallel yes, since the film in question is based on Shakespeare, a comparison no); it's like comparing a work by Jackson Pollock with one by John Coltrane.

Sorry, but I associated "pompous director" with a disdain for being a director and not as a filmmaker vs. writer. However, the merits of Welles are not for me or you, and certainly not for the polet, to give, but rather for other great directors who have drawn (and how could they not?) ideas, suggestions, and everything else from this immense director.

"it's a beautiful example of how horror and science fiction can be mixed," already done in Alien with far superior results, this is a fun little movie without embellishing it too much with unnecessary blah blah.

easycure even good Orson went beyond technicalities (he used technique to express emotions and not to show off how skilled he was at handling the camera), but if you can't see that, you can't blame the director. I also think, unlike Pollè, that you’re not the only one who feels this way (perhaps a minority but not the only one); in any case, I distance myself from that perspective.
