Very detailed and interesting review! I agree with what Fallen says about the birth of doctrine as a practical matter: IN MY OPINION, a large part of the confusion around the term "communism" comes from the fact that it can refer interchangeably to economic theories, brutal dictatorial structures, and normal democratic left-wing parties. "But how can a person with a bit of conscience compare mad killers like Stalin or Pol Pot to the beautiful but utopian Marxist thought?" As a non-communist (in fact, I could never define Marx's thought as beautiful as you do), I can say that such comparisons are primarily heard from people on the right, perhaps fascist sympathizers, when criticizing left-wing parties, in the grip of the most wicked McCarthyism that shows no signs of disappearing.
