...and instead no, we know who the best are, at least during the time when they were, precisely, less strict :D

But look, I was talking about suites, but I absolutely didn't mention progressive. I even named Moon in June and Echoes, which in my opinion are quite distant from the genre. Instead, Nine Feet fits perfectly into prog, and that passage you mentioned is neither filler nor vague improvisation, but something well-defined that certainly doesn’t detract from the overall result or the entire structure. In my opinion, you can't say that in progressive everything is more rigid, because you would exclude from the genre groups that actually have all the characteristics to belong there. Of course, if you mention Yes or ELP, you're going to hit where rigidity is at home, but less "canonical" groups like VDGG, KC, Gentle Giant, the same Caravan, and countless examples of so-called minor prog have often allowed themselves "freedoms" in composition, in flexibility, which didn't necessarily mean improvisation nor, at the same time, a departure from certain standards. If everything really had to be as rigid as you say, then ELP would undoubtedly be the best.

And then fluidity is important in suites; it's not the only parameter to consider, but in my opinion, it is quite fundamental. And Nine Feet Underground is a glaring example of that, come on.

Alright, no comment on A passion play. I don't understand where you see a high dose of improvisation in Nine feet underground nor why you consider it a proto-suite. And remember that in '70, Atom Heart Mother was released, perhaps the greatest fusion of rock and classical.

If we want to include it, there's obviously Echoes that stands out, and without the need for frills :D

Manliuzzo, I was referring to one of the ultimate provocateurs, namely Sorciopeloso, but you're new here and don't know him well. The fact is that with him, it's impossible to engage in a serious discussion, which instead we've generally managed to do with Mauroprog.
