It depends. If you're looking for something more "post-" and "avantgarde," I would suggest starting with "The Work Which Transforms God," but the latest "777 - Sect(s)" is also perfect for beginners, as it encapsulates a bit of all the souls of Blut. Personally, I also greatly appreciate the more controversial/misunderstood "MoRT" (Metamorphosis of Realistic Theories), an album that is... everything and nothing. Sound nonsense, decay and disease; by the end of the 50 minutes, you’ll be left with a wonderful headache... If, on the other hand, you prefer a more "classic" (yet still very personal and always inspired!) black, "Ultima Thulée" and the two "Memoria Vetusta" are essential. In short, Blut Aus Nord are like a pig; nothing goes to waste.

... Anyway anyway anyway... Have you by any chance listened to the latest from Altar Of Plagues? And Blut Aus Nord?

Damn!! Just a couple of days ago I was there trying to remember the name of this band/album... I had heard them briefly, I really liked them a lot, but as often happens with many distracted listens, it quickly ended up in the brain’s waiting room and I lost track of them... Every now and then this beautiful cover came to mind. Well, hell yeah, problem solved!

Anneke's "hateful" voice... Now I can say I've heard them all...

I had listened to them but only briefly, and in fact, I don't remember a damn thing... So I won't say anything. But you, good job.
The Gathering If Then Else

A stunning album (4.5), despite a few drops in tone and imperfections here and there. It's probably the most diverse and multifaceted of The Gathering, quite different from its predecessor HTMAP (in terms of sound choice, "if_then_else" is a bit heavier, "edgy") and from the subsequent masterpiece "Souvenirs" (regarding the emotional aspect, "Souvenirs" is darker and more introspective). At first, I wasn't crazy about this band, but lately, I've been revisiting their entire discography from "Mandylion" onwards, and wow, one album more beautiful than the other! "Souvenirs" will remain my favorite, but among all the others, it's truly a dilemma of choice. I don't think much of the first two albums, "Always" is nice, a typical early '90s doom/death in the style of Paradise Lost, but obviously still immature... "Almost A Dance," on the other hand, is simply unlistenable...

Phyga, it was about time someone wrote the review (which, by the way, I think I liked more than the album).
