Ale, maybe because a genre like doom (be it tainted with death or not) doesn't have many variations outside of itself. And so sometimes it gets tiresome to hear the same stuff all the time. Anyway, yes, "A Fine Day To Exit" is really bad.

No, anyway, I have to force myself and like it at all costs. I don't want to wait another three years. I HAVE to like it!! I will do everything: I'll set the baroque and sugary ballad "Idle Blood" as my morning alarm, "Departer" before going to sleep, and especially "Liberation," with a title that is quite emblematic, when I go to the bathroom to stimulate intestinal peristalsis...

Dear Ale, I recommend you listen to this work by Katatonia without any prejudice because it could very well please you. Don't pay too much attention to the negative reviews... :))

@senmayan: the problem with this album is not the lack of "fast tracks," God forbid! Someone who listens to Katatonia isn't looking for blast beats or death metal outbursts; for example, I really like "Tonight's Decision," but I wouldn't say that's an album that goes full throttle, would you? It's that three-quarters of the songs on "Night" are not only slow but also (and above all) FLAT, one-dimensional, static, and so the slowness feels heavier than usual. The influences from Opeth or similar bands take a back seat for me; what matters more than anything else is the inspiration, and to me (I emphasize "to me") it simply seems that here it is measured out drop by drop. That's all...

Fede, do me a favor: buy it anyway... I admit I can be a bit too drastic in judging certain albums (the latest MDB keeps getting worse for me; right now, I'd give it the same rating I gave to "Night..." if not less), but what can I do? This record is driving me insane, I can't take it! Anyway, I don't want to influence anyone, go ahead and buy it; who knows, maybe you'll end up loving it...

Paradise Lost? Well, frankly, I’ve always considered them inferior to My Dying Bride or their ilk; for example, their "Draconian Times," which is regarded as a classic, a masterpiece, and so on, doesn’t seem that exceptional to me at all. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of it, but I don’t know... I prefer "Gothic," it’s rawer and has a gritty production that I really like. But I have to say that their latest album, "Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us," is truly beautiful!! When you have some time and inclination, maybe give it a listen :)) bye bye

@geb: Hi, you know that asking for something by Opeth without growls excludes 95% of their discography (and especially the best albums)? XD Anyway, "Damnation" might be for you; it's not metal but a sort of prog rock interlude from the band. In all their other works, Mikael growls like crazy, but in the last two albums, Opeth have preferred to alternate "soft" parts with the usual heavier and more "death-y" sections (which are often less spontaneous than in the past). In short, they do a bit of both. I wouldn’t know, it's up to you what to do; it doesn't hurt to try :D

I also go crazy for TGCD. Anyway, I certainly didn't expect a "TGCD part 2" with this "Night"; I was simply expecting an album in true Katatonia style with denser and more autumnal sounds, which are indeed abundant, but it still turned out to be a total dud... They should have stirred it up a bit more, damn it, in some parts it's so uninspired that it gives me chills.
