ahah... a real wreck, the Lada, which however tends to be beautiful, or at least it tries. The Trabant, on the other hand, is a wreck by constitutional will, the worst of the worst... that's why it's cool :) kosmo, in terms of German public law (I won't start talking about it or some jerk will show up saying I’m spilling my mental ramblings all over Debaser) the situation is exactly as you say. The East was presented with the constitution in force in the West and they adhered to it (transition from the GrundGesetez/Verfassung). A full-fledged Anschluss.

kosmo, to what you've said, I add that the Trabant isn't beautiful, but it has its charm :)

Kosmo, to each his own, but I prefer the syrupy sweetness of Goodbye Lenin :) There’s less black-and-white thinking there, the author doesn’t make it clear where he’s going with it (a bit like those Germans, those Brandenburgers), whether he wants to criticize or praise, ending up in Nostalgia, that psychological/psychotic drift that leads East Germans, despite years of oppression and hardships, to long for pickles and old balances. This is the discussion I wanted to spark with the review, to debate the dangers of coercion towards good, the tyranny of the majority, democracy (a utopia even further from man than communism)... instead, we got stuck trying to figure out whether this is a political film or not. For me, every action is a political action, and it would be nice to know what your grandmother thinks about what was and what is today. I reiterate that it wasn’t the review's (nor the film's) job to decide what is right or what is wrong, and I say that the aim was to converse about the drift the world has taken, what the end of the Soviet bloc has led to, our perceptions, in a non-obvious way without listing the good or the bad... you say it’s human and I believe you mean by that human that it’s a film with simple intentions and made simply. I perceived that simplicity as superficiality and black-and-white thinking... perhaps you’re right: I’m too twisted, and that’s why I wrote this review... to clarify my thoughts. Gemy, your critique would be appropriate instead.

never competed with anyone. honestly, I don't even feel like discussing things with people, I don’t even look them in the eye (as Dostoevsky would say)... it's just that I wish people would keep their nonsense for themselves and stick to saying things, not that I'm asking for anything intelligent, but at least decent since they’re using my email inbox... anyway, speaking of serious matters: if this isn’t a political film, then I am Mary Stuart.

the superman??? come on, don’t talk about things that don’t concern you... look at other people's lives, read 1984 and impress your friends... now I bid you farewell. bye bye, take care.

"Do you ever read yourself again?" ...of course I do, and you didn't even catch the ironic quote. Obviously, not everyone reads Nietzsche.

It's a political film made by a half-wit who, in every interview she gave to promote the film, didn't talk about the film itself, but about how sad the GDR was... and then added a little love story to feed the romantics like you!

Increasing "1984" beyond the level of mediocrity assigned to it by its author is a good thing for those who have always indulged in Mickey Mouse and then suddenly want to feel grown-up. If you watch this film and the first thing that comes to mind is "1984," not only are you banal and making banal associations, but above all, there is some problem in your personal culture lounging on what has been served to you. "Personally, I consider 'The Lives of Others' anything but a political film. It’s a film about loneliness, about the empty and flat existence of a man, an existence so aseptic that it drives him to seek true life in the experiences of others” ...okay, sure, but the guy isn’t just going to the park to spy on couples. He works under orders from the Stasi, on orders from the GDR. The film, as the director confirms, the son of East German parents who fled to the West, is a political film and about “the pity that certain Germans felt living like animals” ...you are ruined. I say: why not inform yourselves about the things you choose to consume? NO? The film is well made??? ...WOW, big deal. If the review is just mental wanking, it’s because I, knowing the nonsense that takes hold of you since childhood, have also provided you with the tools to watch the film without looking like complete clods who then come out with "1984."
