Worse everything you want, but punk=grunge is not entirely true. Take Pearl Jam and Soundgarden...they have nothing punk about them.

yeah yeah easy I'm with you... but the Wipers are the Wipers!!! :-D ...anyway, I didn't mean the music itself, but more the approach of a band towards their own music... in this, nothing has changed from before!

In my opinion, they were the first group to do indie as we know the genre today. I mean, all indie and alternative music stems from their songs, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the people who made American underground great adore the Wipers (Thurston Moore, J Mascis, Kurt Cobain, King Buzzo... etc.).

Talking about grunge is like trying to give historical coordinates to the existence of Santa Claus! Grunge doesn’t exist. Sonic Youth didn't invent grunge, but they were the example for dozens of other bands... In short, in the 80s in America, if you played a certain type of music, regardless of the specific genre, you were part of an extended family. Honestly, trying to understand who was the first to do what is pointless and impossible... But if I really have to say who was the first... well, everyone bow down, it was the Wipers.
