@blackdog: is there really all this difference between a light-blue Forza Italia supporter who gets aroused to the tune of the anthem written by the "great" Mino Reitano and the cash register, or a marguerite-puller all about home and family, and a green Lega supporter who conjures up Muslims and southerners?

According to Wikipedia:
The first proclamation of Thanksgiving, dated June 29, 1676, is attributed to Edward Rawson on behalf of the governor of Charlestown, Massachusetts, who decided to declare a day of thanksgiving for the good fortune enjoyed by the community and to celebrate the victory over the "pagan natives," namely the very Indians without whom the colony itself would not have existed. In the following centuries, the tradition of Thanksgiving spread throughout the country. The thirteen colonies (the first American states) did not celebrate Thanksgiving simultaneously until October 1777, when one was declared to commemorate the victory against the British at Saratoga in the War of Independence. It was George Washington, the first President of the United States of America, who declared the holiday for all states in 1789 by proclaiming a national day of thanksgiving. Many laughed at the idea, starting with Thomas Jefferson, who, as president, did not follow up on it. However, by the mid-nineteenth century, Thanksgiving was widespread across much of American territory and was observed by all social classes, from the wealthy to the less fortunate.

lariana, I’m not saying he’s reactionary, nor that his texts are worthless, but he is a chauvinist... a chauvinist isn't always a reactionary. Anyway, it's not important whether he’s a Republican, a Democrat, or a reactionary... it all kills, it all kills, it’s all one race. I don’t want to be a populist (since I’m not), but in America, the factions aren’t really that different from one another (another nonsense we’re importing)... in fact, they used to use the same names (I mean the Republican Party and the Democratic Party), just the opposite.

how can I not agree with you on the public-Verdena issue. as for your musical opinions, I’ll stay quiet... because I already know what happens, a storm. anyway, I put on Verdena in the background while I’m on the Ludovico treatment… Pino Scotto makes me think (as a person)

All chauvinists are assholes, and I would whip them from morning till night. The worst are the Americans. What the hell can they possibly be proud of? Democracy and freedom? Are you kidding me? America is the anti-democracy par excellence. In America, if you want to die, you have to pay; you can't even smoke underwater, they bomb everything that moves in the name of God and the dollar, they have prejudices and a political ignorance of monstrous depth. I hate all the damn chauvinists, and if Italy wins the World Cup, I don't care, but being proud to be American is pure idiocy, and Springsteen is undoubtedly a Democrat, but what does that mean? Nothing. Not a thing. There is no difference between Democrats and Republicans... historically speaking. That Springsteen is a chauvinist asshole who celebrates Thanksgiving (i.e.: a holiday for having cleared the continent from those savage beasts called Indians).

"Springsteen does not accept what the stars and stripes represent (the ideals of freedom and democracy) and chooses to appropriate it: I am American, this flag represents MY being American and the ideals I love." --->>> maybe not a Reaganite fascist, but definitely an idiot.
