mistergigi...these are questions only a philosopher-know-it-all can answer.

trompe le monde should not be compared to what comes after, but to what came before. it's not bad... for heaven's sake, but it’s nothing compared to doolittle. at least for me.

trompe le monde is just the sad memory of ideas that have gone away

in fact, I didn't want to deny their skill and significance. Let’s be clear: I like the pixies, but not as much as dinosaur jr. Anyway, for me, is it real? by the wipers (1979) is already indie... so for me, there’s no geographic or historical reference. even husker du for me is indie, which is nothing more than a term that has strayed from its original meaning.

I'm not talking about or accusing any specific user, but rather a behavior that's quite common.

For me, the Pixies are distinctly inferior to Dinosaur Jr. Let's be clear: Surfer Rosa is nice, but Doolittle is better, and after that, there's nothing— and they know it (in fact, they haven't even dared to make a new album). So, if I have to think of bands that "sound" indie-rock, I definitely prefer others. Indie-rock doesn't change definition every time... it's the know-it-alls who invent a new genre every day, a new definition and similar nonsense. For me, indie-rock is synonymous with punk rock, which musically means doing whatever the hell you want. I don't understand who is supposed to be indie and who isn't. Fugazi, Dischord, Ian MacKaye are integral parts of indie (if you want to call it post-hardcore just to feel smarter... go ahead) which isn't a precise way of playing.

And why??? For indie rock, there's no need to play something specific or have a certain type of sound... it's a beautiful, broad, and welcoming melting pot. Indie can easily be synonymous with alternative, punk rock, post-hardcore, and various nonsense. It's a way of doing, not of playing. FUGAZI are indie rock just as much as Dinosaur Jr.

I almost forgot: superfuzz bigmuff (EP) by Mudhoney

only in the same year were released Bug by Dinosaur Jr (10,000 times better, FOR ME), Day Dream Nation by Sonic Youth, the first EP by Fugazi (which is nothing less than the perfect rock opera), Ozma by Melvins, and Telepatic Surgery by Flaming Lips (though I think it was '89)... in short, there’s better... oops, there was better.

I don't like Patton either, who knows how much... the u.s.s.a. are the new group of Denison (former guitarist of Jesus Lizard) and from the tracks available on their MySpace, they give a lot of hope (much better, for me, than Tomahawk).
