Great paolofreddo.. Absurd intro as usual (Are you planning to write a review?? But you're already doing it, blessed man!), beautiful the perfectly useless rhetorical questions that make the text heavy, full of fillers, bland, banal, and highly annoying words.. Kudos also for the score given to capocchia.. They are all nice moments, an extra point for holding back from describing the conceptual and complex cover..

Fortunately, there are also decent reviews.. The film is a letdown; for those who know the book, it feels unnecessarily stretched and inflated. Visually, it's so glossy and perfect that it becomes cloying and resembles an amusement park.. I also fail to understand the reason for spreading a simple adventure novel over three tedious little films. Probably the director/production tried to surpass the original trilogy starting from much sparser and simpler material, hoping to replicate its success. Tragically and obviously a lost bet.. You could have explained why you think the film is awful instead of offering this sterile and tedious rhyme..

Not a bad film.. The tension is well balanced and some scenes really make your stomach churn; not the horrifying ones though, which are often predictable and seen before: as long as the monsters are just hinted at, the film works, but then, as it’s obvious, it starts to unravel a bit.. The moments of greatest tension are those that are more properly spelunking (the protagonist stuck in the tunnel, the girl hanging who opens the way over the abyss), while some ideas, like the pseudo warrior metamorphosis of the protagonist, are almost ridiculous.. It’s certainly filmed in the least dark cave I’ve ever seen.. Overall a positive balance, for a modern horror it’s worth it..

A beautiful, engaging, and moving series, also complemented by great actors. Valuable also because it is stripped of the rhetoric that burdens other productions dealing with WWII. Good review, but let me make a tiny (and a bit pedantic) note: the Great War is the First, not the Second.. ;)
