THE REVIEW

Many, when they think of Guns n' Roses, might recall their quintessential masterpiece, their "musical Bible," "Appetite for Destruction," but few know their true recording origins: very few are aware of their first EP from 1986, "Live?!*@ Like a Suicide." This four-song Extended Play marks the recording debut of the brand-new Guns n' Roses, born from the ashes of previous bands, LA Guns and Hollywood Rose, from which they take their name.

"Guns" and "Roses" - nothing more contradictory! War against fertility, destruction against flourishing, death against life, but also bullets against thorns. The sound of the American band is sharp, killer; it is a direct shot: "Guns n' Roses" is the perfect name.

Although the EP consists of only 4 "sparse" tracks, it immediately acquires "big success." Two covers + two original songs in the name of pure and genuine hard rock made of killer guitar riffs and dry, concise drum hits. The lyrics reflect the mentality and ideology of Guns: they are street people, attached to the lower depths, to the "badlands" described by Springsteen in a 1978 song, people tied to forced teachings, of sexism, pure anarchy in punk style, and self-destruction given by drugs and wild sex. In short, abuses upon abuses, both of drugs and in the sexual, mental, and physical realms! Their battle cry is "Fuck you all! We are the Guns and we are bad boys!" This immediately makes it clear the American band, which the following year, 1987, would break through in the world of hard rock and showbiz with their "appetite for destruction."
